10 beauty hacks that will leave you looking your best

What works for one person may not work for another, so there are lots of “guaranteed” beauty hacks out there that leave people frustrated.

Here are 10 hacks that are good bets or that so many people swear by that there must be something to them.

From keeping your hair frizz-free to plumping your lashes, see which of these 10 hacks works best for you.

1. Enhance your eyelashes without a prescription

Sure, you can use a lash growth serum, but those tend to be expensive or require a prescription (or both!).

But plenty of people swear by swiping on some organic castor oil with a spoolie for both lash and eyebrow growth.

At the very least, it’s sure to moisturize your lashes. Just be aware that even expensive serums take weeks or months to start working – it’s not an overnight fix.

2. Keep aloe around for more than sunburns

Aloe vera can not only calm burns and sunburns (although you should know to wear your sunscreen by now!) but it can also help reduce facial redness, acne flares, and even quench dry skin.

While it’s not a magic potion, it can bring some much-needed natural relief because it contains antioxidants, enzymes, Vitamins A and C, and it is an anti-inflammatory.

You can get the benefits by simply keeping a plant around or simply look for aloe vera in your beauty products.

3. Toss your towel to eliminate frizzy hair

Towels are tough on your hair shaft, especially if towel dry your tresses.

If you already have damaged hair or simply want your locks to look at smooth as possible, you want to get the moisture out as quickly and gently as possible. While some have recommended using a t-shirt, others have said the best way way to dry your hair is with a microfiber towel.

4. Lighten dark armpit skin with potatoes

Some call it a beauty myth and others swear it’s the only thing that’s ever worked for them. Since it’s cheap, easy, and unlikely to have side effects, using potatoes to lighten any dark skin on your armpit is worth a try.

Grate a potato, squeeze the juice out, and apply that juice to your underarms. After 10 minutes, rinse with cool water.

5. Head to the bathroom to blot oil

Keep oily skin at bay by snagging a toilet seat cover from one of the stalls.

In a pinch, it works great as a blotting paper to absorb that oil and it won’t leave behind the powdery residue that some blotting papers do.

6. Use baby powder to pump lashes

If you have thin lashes and extra coats of mascara cause them to clump, try adding a layer of baby powder to get some extra volume.

Simply curl your lashes, apply a light coat of mascara to hold the powder in place, and then use a Q-tip to brush powder on top. Finish it off by applying a final layer of mascara.

7. Keep your eyelash curl by heating your curler

You can run it under hot water or give it a blast with your hairdryer, but heating your eyelash curler can give you some extra curl and make your lift last longer.

But you’ll want to do a touch test first so you don’t overheat it and burn your eyelids!

8. Exfoliate your lips with a toothbrush

A bold lip requires a healthy base. Dry and cracked lips will be all the more obvious when you cover them with lipstick as it settles into cracks.

Keeping your lips moisturized and exfoliated is as easy as keeping a spare toothbrush in your makeup bag to gently brush off dead skin before you start your makeup routine.

But it’s best not to do it on a dry lip. Try some Vaseline or lip balm before you brush.

9. Dust brow powder or eyeshadow on your part to make hair look thicker

Dusting a powder close to your hair color on your hairline or part will obscure the parts of your scalp that show and make your hair look thin as a result.

It’s an easy way to obscure some root growth as well!

10. Don’t neglect your neck or decollete

While there are some ridiculous myths out there about using Vaseline and toothpaste to make your breasts grow, you should really be paying attention to the area up a little higher.

No matter how good your skincare routine is, if you neglect your neck and decollete it will erase all that anti-aging work you’ve done. Bring your skincare down a few inches and make sure you get those areas, especially with moisturizer.

Another area to pay close attention to with moisturizers and even retinol and Vitamin C? The backs of your hands.
