10 German Shepherds that prove dogs can be heroes too
When it comes to daring, heroic dog breeds to won’t fail in the line of duty, is there any other option than a German Shepherd? The AKC says it perfectly:
2. Car Crash Rescue
Shannon Lorio ran off the highway while driving and ended up in an embankment that was covered in deep greenery. Unable to see the car crash, nobody had any idea she was there. Hero, a runaway dog, found her slumped over on her car and dragged her to the road 5 yards away, saving her life!
3. Lightning strike
Jonathan and his friends went hiking in the Pike National Forest, deciding to climb Mount Bierstadt. The weather changed 14,000 feet up, so they decided to climb down. All of a sudden, Jonathan was struck by lightning on his head. He woke up to find himself alive, only because his dog Rambo had absorbed some of the blast, dying in the process.
4. The ultimate sacrifice
While Officer R.J. Young was working in the field with his partner, Bruno, someone opened fire. Bruno took the bullets himself and was in critical condition. He soon passed away in the back of Officer Young’s cruiser.
5. Saved from the pool
In 2013, Milena was a 4-year-old girl from Argentina. While her parents were distracted, she escaped the house and went down the street to a neighbors house. They had a pool and the little girl wanted to go in for a dip. Incredibly, Sasha, the family’s dog, had followed her all the way from her house to keep an eye on her. When Milena started drowning, the family found Sasha in the water, holding the little girl’s head above water.
6. Baby in the park
While Roger and his German Shepherd, Jade, were walking in the park, Jade started to pull on the lead. Roger investigated what was causing his dog to act strangely and found a newborn baby girl stuffed in a bag and dumped out to die. He was able to rescue the baby thanks to Jade!
7. A bear of a dog
Bear is a German Shepherd from Texas that won the National Hero Dog Award when he saved his owner’s life. Debbie had a seizure and needed immediate medical attention but nobody was around. Bear frantically ran outside and got the attention of nearby people to come and help her, saving her life.
8. Taking a bullet for kids
A family was sitting in the car when a nearby shootout from a road rage incident occurred. The mother and her three kids were in the line of fire when Noah, their German Shepherd, laid across the kids, taking a bullet for them. He died leaping out of the window and chasing the man who fired the bullet.
9. Taking down a murderer
The FBI was chasing a gunman that had killed four people in New York. After finally tracking him down, there were stuck in a standoff as the man hid in an old bar. Ape, a German Shepherd, went into the bar with a tactical camera to scout with a team right behind, waiting to breach. As they breached, the man shot Ape in the chest, later dying from the wound.
10. Dog saves the President
During the German Battle of Sutjeska in 1943, Josip Broz-Tito was stuck as bombs rained down near his location. As one bomb fell nearby, his dog, Lux, jumped up and protected him from the shrapnel, sacrificing his own life. Josip Broz-Tito was the president of Yugoslavia at the time.
