10 times people got called out for lying on social media
While we use social media to keep in touch with family and friends, plenty of people use it to put up a front, simply displaying the most ideal parts of their lives.
And then there are the people who flat out lie (or at least alter reality) just to get attention. From Facetuning photos and hashtagging them #nofilter to reposting someone else’s photo to make people think they’re somewhere or something they’re not, some people think lying makes them look cool.
That’s why it’s so funny when they get called out.
Take a look at these 10 sad souls who felt like they had to do something dishonest to make themselves look better but really just ended up looking lame in the end.
1. Well, we believe you’re self-educated
So here’s something most smart people have in common – they don’t need to announce it to the world. Especially when they’re full of crap.
2. Watermark of shame
If you’re going to pretend you have a hot, young girlfriend, it’s best to make sure she’s of legal age and that you didn’t steal her photo from a site called Jailbait.
Gross.
3. Anti-truthers
Anti-vaxxers rely on false statements and hypocrisy to get people on their side. It’s a dangerous game and it’s good to see people called out on their bull.
This isn’t even the worst of it.
4. Self-love
We’re all for good self-esteem, but you don’t have to pretend someone else is calling you pretty just for attention.
Just sit back and feel good about yourself. Otherwise, you end up looking vain and pathetic.
5. I didn’t mean to post this thing I just posted
How on earth do you think people will believe you didn’t mean to post something that you captioned “I didn’t mean to post this”?
If you’re feeling yourself in a good picture, just say so. No need for lies.
6. I’m so busy I found the time to tell you about it
Is there anything that makes a person sound more insecure than insisting they don’t spend time on social media because they’re busy having a life?
7. Nice beach, bro
Someone got pwned on Snapchat. Is that some kind of sand-colored blanket?
What’s wrong with just saying you’re enjoying the sunshine and green grass?
8. Actually, they just have a problem with pervs
Don’t play the veteran card to criticize a business when you’re the bad guy.
9. Mom FTW
If your parents bought you a car, you should feel lucky. There’s no need to pretend your life is harder than it is.
And when you decide to lie about your “hardships,” you can expect to look like an even more entitled loser when your own mom calls you out.
10. Called out by a celebrity
We’re not sure how you recover your pride after being called out as a liar by a celebrity.

There’s no reason to lie on social media. Next time you feel the need to invent a story, just remember these 10 people and how humiliated they must have felt (and deservedly so) after being called out for their tall tales.
If you don’t have anything true to say, stick to posting photos of your cat.
