10 reasons why you should keep your pickle juice
We’ve all eaten pickles before! They add a wonderful crunch to a sandwich or wrap, make a briny snack, and are all-around delicious. Usually, we get out pickles in jars filled to the brim with juice. Most of us end up dumping the juice down the drain when we finish eating all the pickle treasure within, but what if we told you you are throwing away a miracle liquid? Check out these 10 pickle juice hacks below!
1. Clean your coppers!
If you own copper pots and pans, well, congratulations, you’ve made it. If you need a way to help bring back that sparkle they used to have, splash a little pickle juice on while cleaning to help get any charred bits off!
2. Weed-eater
Pickle juice has a high vinegar content, helping to preserve the cucumbers within. Funny enough, those levels of acid are a great way to get rid of dandelions and thistles, causing them to wither. It’s organic, too!
3. Recipe secret ingredient
While it may sound weird, pickle juice adds a blast of flavor, right where you need it! It can be used in homemade vinaigrettes or as a vinegar substitute. It also makes a great brine for chicken (it’s what makes Chick-Fil-A chicken so good).
4. Stopping your hiccups
Is there a lot of science behind this? No, there isn’t. That doesn’t mean people claim that it does work! A little sip and it’s supposed to be like magic. Might as well try it, right?
5. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere
Pickle cocktails are surprisingly delicious! They go well in a martini or Gibson and you can always add a bit of brine to a Bloody Mary. The morning after an “exciting” weekend may need a bit of the ol’ pickle juice to spice it up.
6. Hangover cure
We just HAD to put this one after the last hack. It’s a well-known folk remedy that seems to make sense. It helps you rehydrate, replenish sodium levels, and more! Some people even take a shot before they go out for the night!
7. Upset stomach cure
This one is pretty clear. It’s a liquid that has sodium, potassium, and vinegar while ALSO having healthy gut bacteria. If the liquid is too intense when you’re feeling queazy, cut it with some water.
8. Workout recovery
We normally think of Gatorade or something similar when we want to refuel after a workout. Pickle juice may be a better alternative! It’s full of electrolytes and can help with providing nutrients and liquids.
9. De-icer
This one sounds weird but it works! Use the juice to de-ice important areas of your steps or sidewalks the night before and you won’t be disappointed! CNN even did a whole special on this one if you need proof.
10. Help bad breath!
You wouldn’t think that pickles or their juice could help with a case of bad breath, but it does! Pickle juice has anti-bacterial properties, eliminating the bacteria in your mouth that make you stink! Even the vinegar can help with breaking down the sulfur in onions that make you smell.
