10-year-old invited to perform Metallica cover with Foo Fighters – brings the house down
When an insanely talented rock band performs live, you know you’re in for a night you’ll never forget. The only thing that can top an incredible performance is when the artists bring on an equally talented individual to rock it out with them.
And that’s exactly what happened at a live performance by the Foo Fighters, when they invited a 10-year-old boy onstage – and he absolutely thrashed a Metallica song. Despite being swamped by his giant electric guitar, the kid had ridiculous skill, and he wasn’t afraid to show it off.
What were you doing when you were 10? Probably not performing on-stage in front of thousands with some of music’s greatest legends!
This awesome story began when Collier Cash Rule – who, let’s face it, is already halfway to rockstar status by his name alone – was hanging out in the crowd at the Foo Fighter’s concert in Kansas City, Missouri. During the performance break, none other than the band’s lead singer, Dave Grohl, spotted him, and asked if he could play the guitar.
What a moment for the little lad – and how lucky that his answer was “yes”!
Grohl immediately invited him onstage to perform in front of the entire crowd. Even the suggestion of this would have us quaking in our boots, but Collier fearlessly took up his offer. Grohl asked him what he was comfortable playing, and Collier replied:
“I know a lot of Metallica songs.”
And that was that. “Enter Sandman” was Collier’s song of choice, and the band started to play. The young boy strummed the first few cords to the famous tune – and the crowd went wild! At 10 years old, Collier was already an absolute natural on stage.
Grohl joined in with the lyrics, and was clearly impressed with the kid playing in front of him. In fact, he asked Collier to stay right with the band on stage, and they riffed together on a few more Metallica songs, much to the crowd’s entertainment.
At one point, it must have hit Collier what an insane situation he had found himself in. He froze up on stage, and Grohl laughed and gently egged him on. Now there’s someone who probably knows all about stage fright!
As if things couldn’t get any more bizarrely awesome for Collier, the band’s new drummer, Taylor Hawkins, offered the aspiring musician his guitar as a thank-you token for sharing his talent with the band. Understandably, Collier could do nothing but gape in shock.
When Grohl made the suggestion, Collier seemed to think he was joking – but then Grohl actually handed over the guitar, and Collier was so overwhelmed that he gave one of his favorite idols a long hug.
This must have been an incredibly touching moment for the crowd, and when the video was shared online, the rest of the world was able to witness it for themselves. It didn’t take long for the video to go viral, with more than 5 million people viewing it on YouTube, where it amassed over 40,000 likes.
For some rock stars, the fame gets to their head. They forget what it was like to be a young boy with dreams. But for Grohl, this clearly isn’t the case. His kind gesture has made Collier famous in his own right – and we’re sure this is a day the young lad will never forget for the rest of his life!
Watch the video below and prepare to go wild for Collier’s talented performance.
