101-year-old woman has now survived two pandemics and cancer in her lifetime
Some people on this earth are just straight-up legends. The things they have seen and done are more than many would experience in multiple lifetimes.
A New York woman may fit this classification after all she has been through.
Angelina Friedman is incredible. Plain and simple. Friedman is known as a “Centurian” or someone who has lived over a century! This is a feat that is pretty incredible all by itself. She has much more that she can brag about, however.
Born on an immigrant boat crossing to America, her life started in turmoil.
Friedman’s mother gave birth to her as she was traveling to New York City from Italy. Her mother died in the process, starting her newborn life off with tragedy.
Born in 1918, she was thrust into the middle of the Spanish Flu epidemic.
When she was born, she was taken care of by her two sisters and their dad in Brooklyn. Years later, she married Harold, the love of her life.
Some years later, both Harry and Angelina got cancer.
After both of them fought the disease, Angelina survived, but Harry didn’t. She is the last surviving member of her siblings and is still rocking it!
Her family says that she has a special gift.
Saying that she has “superhuman DNA,” the family looks at her in awe because of the things she has been through.
Everybody in the family lived until at least 95, except one uncle. My mother is a survivor. She is not human. She has superhuman DNA,’ Merola said.
Surviving more than the immigration to America and cancer, she had more opportunities to prove death wrong!
Friedman has beat sepsis and lived through the 1918 pandemic. She has lived through miscarriages and the death of her husband. What else could happen to this woman?
Well, she just beat the novel coronavirus.
What’s one pandemic when you can survive two? Diagnosed with COVID-19 a few weeks ago, the steely woman suffered on and off fever for a few days.
April 20th signaled the end of COVID-19 for Angelina.
After fighting the battle for about a month, she finally told it to leave for good. She was healthy and ready to go once she got cleared by the hospital.
Her family is happy to see her again.
Since she is nearly deaf, they can’t talk to her on the phone. Her family hadn’t seen her since February and wasn’t able to visit while she was testing positive for the virus. Now that they can visit, they are ecstatic.
What’s her next task? Knitting.
What does a woman like her want to do now that she is all done with a second pandemic? She wants to knit. Her family says she is looking for wool to use! Merola said:
They tell me she’s doing great. She’s up and about as much as possible. She’s looking for wool to crochet with. If my mother could see this I’d tell her, “You keep going, Ma. You’re gonna outlive us all,”‘ Merola said.
