Sunday, July 12, the Humane Rescue Alliance received a call reporting an abandoned dog near the Fort Totten Metro tracks in Washington, DC. The rescuers were in total shock and were devastated when they saw the condition of the dog that they were rescuing.

It was an emaciated senior dog soaked in blood!

“When we arrived on the scene, we found an injured and emaciated senior-aged dog covered in blood and parasites. She had what appeared to be stab wounds on her face and the back of her head. There were many other unidentified wounds on her back. One of her eyes was infested with thousands of maggots, and a wound on the back of her head was so deep it fractured her skull,” wrote the rescue team on a Facebook post.

The rescue team then named the poor dog Ladybell and they rushed her to Friendship Hospital for Animals to seek immediate medical help for her injuries.

“Her injuries and body condition were so severe that she couldn’t even stand up or walk on her own,” HRA wrote.“Ladybell was in immense pain, and she was terrified. We can’t begin to imagine what she has endured.”

She’s in a critical condition, is she going to make it?

The fear for Ladybell’s life was still there, they weren’t sure if she was going to make it or not.

She was on the brink of death and she needed to fight for her life.

Thankfully, Ladybell was able to endure surgery.

Also, with a decent amount of antibiotics and pain medicines, her condition started to improve. Her road to recovery started when the medical team first saved her wounded eye.

HRA wrote,

“After extensive emergency surgery performed at HRA, along with a heavy dose of antibiotics and pain relief, her vital signs, blood pressure, and organ functions have improved. We are hopeful her eye has been saved. She is slowly moving around more each day, but there is still a long road ahead of her.”

After further examinations, they also diagnosed other health conditions hidden inside the aged body of the senior dog.

“She has hip dysplasia, several rotting teeth, arthritis and a spinal injury that prevents her from walking normally. Despite her injury, she is already able to walk on her own with little assistance,” they wrote in an update about Ladybell.

When it became evident to the rescue team that Ladybell was going to pull through, she was transported to a foster home.

There, she’s expected to make a full recovery. She was given abundant attention and delicious treats. She also got to do rounds of walks for her to get back on her feet and regain her usual strength.

But the search is on for the suspects!

An investigation was put up and is still ongoing to capture whoever committed this heinous act of cruelty against Ladybell.

The Humane Law Enforcement officers are executing an in-depth search for the heartless monster who relentlessly wronged the senior dog.

They need help, however. They are asking the public or whoever was at the scene of the crime that day to com forward with any information they have.

Obtaining eye-witness accounts will definitely fast track things so justice can be served for Ladybell.

“It is vital that witnesses of any act of animal cruelty contact the police and make a report — as animals cannot speak for themselves,” said Stephen Wells, Animal Legal Defense Fund Executive Director. “We’re hopeful that the local community will come together and share any information they have to hold Ladybell’s abuser accountable.”

And to speed thing up even further, they’re offering a $10,000 reward!

Humane Rescue Alliance is offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who can lead them to finding and prosecuting whoever is responsible for what happened to Ladybell.

After hearing the heartbreaking story of Ladybell, the Animal Legal Defense Fund offered another $5,000 reward, making the total come to a whopping $10,000.

We are one with the search for Ladybell’s abusers, anyone who knows the whereabouts of the suspects may call 202-723-5730, option 3.
