10+ old school parenting photos that would never fly today
Parenting styles have changed a lot since the 1960s.
The parenting objective still remains the same, which is “to instill character and moral development in children.” But the parenting methods between different generations have significantly changed.
But while parenting in the past focused on obedience and self-reliance and the current generation on intuition, parents from past generations were actually less worried about their children.
How? Check out these photos.
Sparklers and crop tops in 1985
It’s 1985. Crop tops and really short shorts were worn by men. Plus dad hand out lit sparklers to their babies. If this happened during this generation, well, there won’t even be a chance of this happening at all.
Same clothes and cigarette
Sons love to dress up like their dads and vice versa. Dads get super excited and they plan it to the last detail. Photos are always taken to help them remember that special time. In this case, though, his dad felt the need to recreate every small detail, including the cigarette.
That’s not going to happen in 2019 though.
Car seat in front
Car seat in front? With no seat belt to secure the baby and the seat? These moms are living on the edge! One thing’s for sure, these moms have developed great reflexes, holding out their arm to stop their baby from falling forward.
Raising pet lions
Today, children raise dogs or cats as pets. But back in the 1960s, exotic animals were commonly raised as pets by families. This guy and his veterinarian mother raised this cub for two years in their home.
It’s so different from today’s world where even parents are afraid of dogs and cats living in their home.
Chairlift with an arm strap
They were being lifted by an open chair more than 900 feet above the air. And the strap used by her grandmother was grandmother’s arm. Wow. This is the “mom bar” that defies any law of physics.
This is one of the instances though where safety bars still don’t appear on most chair lifts, unless absolutely necessary.
Riding a bear at two years old
Parents already freak out when toddlers ride big dogs. Imagine your two-year-old riding a big bear. Yeah, we won’t really see bears being paraded for animal rides with toddlers nowadays.
Old school car seat
So that’s what car seats in the past look like. No need for a seat belt for sure. He even has his own steering wheel!
Unsafe Bikers
It’s an old-school Harley Davidson bike. But there’s nothing old school about having a toddler sit at the back of the bike. And she seems so happy about it, too!
If that happened now, well, let’s just say the police might get involved.
Smoking baby
Look at that kid work that pipe! He’s got the right look to pull it off, too. The only thing he hasn’t got going is his age. Oh, man!
Fly me to the moon
Instead of the baby cots airplanes use now, they first invented this “Sky-cot.” Can you picture where it’s going to go? It’s going to be placed by the overhead bin with the baby under a net. But don’t worry, moms, you’ll still be able to get your baby easily when they need “maternal attention.”
Baby carrier bag
This gives a whole new meaning to carrier bags. And the children are literally in bags. Are they being shipped out? Is this a precursor to sky-cots?
Rifle baby
The rifle looks like it’s even taller than him! Hope that’s not loaded.
