Working in retail is no easy feat. If you are a Sales Associate at a store like Old Navy or Zara, we totally understand your pain. There are so many things you go through that other people would not understand, like putting on a fake smile for entitled customers, checking in the backroom for products that probably don’t exist, and maybe even pretending to not see a customer when you know you need help.

1. Fake smile

You can’t always be in a fantastic mood when you are at work, but when you are dealing with a customer you have to pretend you are fine. Sometimes you might be smiling while on the inside you’re really thinking, “Everything hurts and I’m dying.”

2. Let me check the back…

When a customer asks you if you can check for something in the back, they usually think that the back is filled to the brim with tons of product. Too bad that’s not really the case and it’s usually pretty empty. They will never understand…

3. Bad jokes

“When a customer makes a joke that’s not funny and to make them feel better I’m all like…” Yep, we have all been there!

4. When you prove a customer wrong

Sometimes a customer thinks they are right but… They are not. When you actually get to correct them, oh, the bliss! The sweet bliss!

5. Declined card…

When you have to tell a customer their card is declined… Is there anything more awkward?

6. Bad schedule

“When everyone’s looking forward to a weekend off relaxing but you’ve got work all weekend.” Yep, we can totally relate to that. People still shop on Saturdays, sadly!

When you close at 10 pm and you see a customer peaking through the window at 9:58 pm… Sorry but, no.

8. Coupons

When a customer is trying to tell you about all of the coupons they left at home… Cool, how are they going to help you right now if they are not here? Face palm.

9. Math is hard

“When a customer gives you change after you already entered the amount they first gave you into the register.” Oh yeah, math is not easy. Especially when that happens.

10. Understaffed

When you are already super understaffed and then you get hit with 10 different problems, plus overflooded with customers. This picture explains exactly what that feels like.

When someone asks you when the last time you had a weekend off was… This is probably your answer.

12. Manager probs

When you don’t have the nicest manager, but then you have to interact with him or her in front of a customer. Oh yeah, now all of a sudden they are nice!
