For the past week, our phone screens have been flooded with images of violence and anger following the death of George Floyd. If we were to believe the mainstream media, we’d assume that the whole of America has suddenly lost control in the name of fighting for a cause.

This is simply not the case.

Many protests for the Black Lives Matter movement are peaceful. People only become frustrated when the police initiate violence themselves, such as using tear gas and large shields to forcefully move protesters on.

These 12 images offer a look into the reality of the George Floyd protests that the mainstream media has chosen not to focus on.

1. A veteran making a very good point

This army veteran is disgusted by the treatment of black citizens, especially since he has fought for peace in his country. This powerful statement speaks for thousands of US army veterans across the States.

2. Police showing their respect

This is not a war between protesters and the police. This is a war between protesters and the few members of the police who abuse their power. These police showed their respect for all black lives needlessly loss by taking to their knee and bowing their heads.

3. This police officer joining the protest

Right now, thousands of police officers across America want to know what they can do to help. In many ways, joining in on the protests is the greatest ways to show their respect.

4. This elderly lady, whose message speaks the depressing truth

Racism in America has been a problem for a sickening length of time now. Yes, things might not be as “bad” as they were back in the day, but there is still a problem. And that problem needs to be eliminated.

5. This respectful encounter

What people don’t seem to realize is that there is still a lot of respect between protesters and police officers. An entire collection of people can’t be blamed for the actions of the minority. But we are all responsible for preventing these people from getting into positions of power in the future.

6. These healthcare workers joining in on the protests

Those who work in healthcare are the people who have to deal with individuals who are seriously injured and on the brink of death as a result of racial violence. We’re not surprised to see them joining in with the protests in Philadelphia.

7. The community cleaning up their hometown

We’re all incredibly proud to live where in this country. This pride won’t change because of a few horrendous acts of racism. Protesters need to stop being labeled as the bad people in this situation.

8. The Amish protesting

We don’t know how members of the Amish community were able to learn about George Floyd’s death, but it speaks volumes that these people got together to support the cause.

9. The do-gooders of Minneapolis

It’s wrong to assume that Minneapolis is a place of racial hatred just because of the actions of several police officers. There are thousands of people in the state that just want to help.

10. People preventing looting during protests

These people don’t want their fellow protesters to give them a bad name. By forming a human barricade in front of a closed store, they’re reminding protesters why they’re really here: to honor the memory of George Floyd.

11. This cafe showing its support

Businesses in Minneapolis are showing their support to protesters by offering free food, water and first aid. This cafe is managing to be a part of the protests while still remaining in operation throughout the day.

12. Flint police walking with protesters

Because at the end of the day, we’re all fighting for the same thing.
