12 stories of kindness and compassion during these trying times
The world is currently in a pandemic, and you bet it is scary. It’s a strange time that none of us were really prepared for, therefore it’s causing a lot of issues. People are losing jobs, the elderly are having a hard time getting groceries, and our favorite restaurants are going out of business.
Because it is a time filled with so much sadness and there are so many people struggling, it is more important than ever to be kind and help others if it is in your means. If you see someone who needs help, help them.
Luckily, there are some people who have been doing a great job of this. We found their stories exhibiting kindness and decided to highlight them.
1. A landlord announced he won’t be collecting rent
This landlord based in Maine, named Nathan Nichols, announced to his residents that he would not be collecting rent. Soon after, another landlord jumped in saying that he was also going to follow his lead. This is amazing news, especially for people who lost their jobs.
2. This landlord was also very kind
Looks like more than one landlord is following suit! Another landlord decided to give this woman rent for two months, in addition to her security deposit. Angels do exist.
3. Free hand sanitizer!
It was announced that the luxury corporation LVMH will be distributing hand sanitizer to French health authorities, in addition to Europe’s largest hospital system
4. Woolworths, and many other grocery stores, have set aside hours in the morning for elderly people only
We all know that this virus is even more serious if you are elderly or have a compromised immune system. This made it hard for that group of people to get what they need. So a bunch of grocery stores decided to open up earlier and dedicate certain hours to those people only, which is so kind.
“This temporary measure will give them, and those with a disability, the opportunity to shop before our stores officially open – helping them obtain the essential items they need most in a less crowded environment,” said Woolworths Managing Director Claire Peters.
5. An aquarium without visitors…
Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium had to close, which means they have no visitors. So what can aquarium do when they have no visitors? Finally let their animals roam! They let a group of rockhopper penguins explore several of the exhibits, finally letting their wild sides fly.

6. Kids are getting creative with graduation
Many schools in Japan (and many other places) have closed. Some have closed for the rest of the year… Which has led seniors to get creative with their graduation.
In a Japanese elementary school, students held a digital ceremony in Minecraft — is that creative or what? “They spent all day online together playing games and laughing. I’m glad they all had fun,” one parent wrote.

7. Hyundai and Genesis will cover up to six months of car payments
The two brands have pledged to cover up to six months of car payments for those who have lost their jobs during this awful time. This is especially important for people who were servers in restaurants, baristas, etc.
8. Free breakfast and lunch for students
With many schools closing, children who don’t have the money for food are suffering. The Cleveland Metropolitan School District decided to provide free meals for students because of this.
District CEO Eric Gordon said, “The lunch program we’re offering is not only for CMSD, it’s for any children 18 or younger. So if there is a community that doesn’t have access and they can get to one of our 22 sites, we’ll feed them.”

9. This convenience store is giving out free “coronavirus packs”
This is only for people over 65, AKA the most vulnerable people at this time. The convenience store is Day-Today Drylaw Local in Edinburgh, Scotland, and the “packs” consist of one roll of toilet paper, a bottle of hand sanitizer, one pack of tissues, and a box of paracetamol.
10. These two are also giving out free supplies
Asiyah and Jawad Javed, the owners of Day Today Express in Stenhousemuir, are also helping elderly people by giving out free masks, sanitizer, and cleaning wipes. To do this, they spent about 2,000 euros out of pocket. We’d say it’s worth it.

It is for this reason that Chinese billionaire Jack Ma will donate 500,000 test kits as well as one million masks to the United States to help with this. Additionally, he will donate 20,000 testing kits, 100,000 masks, and 1,000 protective suits and face shields for medical use.
