12 things you didn't know you can recycle or reuse
There has never been a better time for DIY projects than right now! With so much time being spent at home and an incentive to save money, DIY is a great answer to the question “so, what are we gonna do tonight?” Reuse and recycle!
Check out these 12 things you probably didn’t know you could reuse or recycle!
Here we go!
1. Cars
Did you know that cars are recyclable? More than that, many places will actually pay you for the parts. Look up some charities in your area that take used cars!
2. Clothes
Clothes are always a great thing to donate or “reuse” creativity! Crafty people love finding ways to breathe new life into old clothes through a few cuts and stitches!
3. Christmas trees
Christmas trees are incredible! Their smell and the holiday cheer they bring are awesome. Instead of throwing it away next year, see if any charities are taking them! If not, many cities have dropoff stations for recycling.
4. Food
You can compost your leftover and unused food! You can also collect your waste scraps and use them! It is a free way to get some fertilizer.
5. Food containers
Whether its mason jars or cereal boxes, many food containers can be used relatively or recycled. Use them for sauces and pickling experiments! If you can’t reuse them, check the recycling instructions.
6. Computers
Once you wipe the memory, check with a library to see if they need it! If not, simply check with a local tech store to see if they need parts or have a recycling program.
7. Cell phones
Cell phones are something that many people are starting to collect! Many Walmart’s have a recycling center in their walkways for cell phones that will pay you to recycle them!
8. Ink cartridges
Ink is messy! You can actually return the old cartridges to the manufacturer and they will pay you a small fee! Not much but it is better than nothing and isn’t wasteful.
9. Tires
Tires basically never decompose and fill up landfills. Make sure that you drop them off at a recycling center instead of throwing them away.
10. Fluorescent lights
Many of these lightbulbs contain mercury and shouldn’t be thrown away. You can check with your local waste disposal provider and see if they take them. Many use them to make new bulbs!
11. Paint
Never pour paint outside or down the drain! It is very hazardous! The best thing to do it to take it to a recycling center and they will reuse it or resell it!
12. Motor oil
If you do your own oil changes, you often have containers of old oil sitting around! Next time, take it to an auto parts store and they will take it!
