12 ways to disguise the eyesores in your home
Instagram and YouTube are full of incredible homes with sparkling countertops and trashcans that never fill. Our homes often have weird stains on the wall and it smells like playdoh. Social media isn’t the reality for most people, even for the people posting it.
They probably just shoved all their kid’s toys under the bed right before the picture was taken. With that in mind, here are some easy hacks that can help you to cover up some of those “not so pretty” parts of the house.
12 Hacks to cover up those eyesores at home
1. Use ottomans
Using an Ottoman with storage is an absolute lifesaver. If you have a playroom or kid space, throw one of these in there for the toys and miscellaneous stuff. It is extra seating AND storage.
2. Stained tables
Whether a table is scratched or stained, a runner is a great way to provide style and function. Just use it (or a few of them) to cover the spots that aren’t as pretty as they used to be.
3. Trash boxes
These are a great solution if your trash cans aren’t ideally placed. You can buy them online or build your own. You can also use something like this to hide an air unit in the backyard!
4. Overflowing bathrooms
Accessories and products can easily crowd the drawers and countertops in bathrooms. For an easy fix for more storage, place a basket hanger on the cabinet doors for easy access!
5. Hide-a-way
Lot’s of home offices can become cluttered because space is so limited. You can get creative in finding out ways to manage the mess! For all the cables and wires, you can zip tie them together and pull them through a hollow box or books glued together. After that, you can place routers and anything else that doesn’t look good inside if there is room!
6. Power cord box
If building a book hideaway isn’t your cup of tea, you can always just buy a power cord management box. The is great near computers or televisions.
7. Counter clutter
Most of us drop our keys, wallet, purse, and coat on the nearest surface, right when we walk into the house. With a cheap wall shelf, you can keep the entire counter free of the various things you put in your pocket over the day.
8. Ivy wall
If you live in an apartment, this is a PERFECT hack for you. If you want some extra privacy or don’t enjoy the lower view on your balcony, drape some faux ivy over the railing. This will create some extra isolation and add some green.
9. Cable organizers
I’ve said it a hundred times but CABLE MANAGEMENT MAKES THE SPACE. Well organized cables can turn a bachelor pad into a home. It keeps everything organized and organization keeps everyone happy.
10. If your view needs some work…
If you have a good view, this one may not be for you, but for all those city-dwellers with a view of a dumpster, we got you covered. This window foil is a great way to turn a drab space into something magical.
11. Rugs, Rugs, Rugs
Rugs are one of the easiest ways to add character to space. Whether its to cover bad flooring or accent color, they are perfect for every house and home.
12. Soap dispensers
Soap dispensers add that indelible element to homes. Everything feels put together and whole. There is nothing wrong with keeping the old dispensers, it just isn’t helping you out. The small touch can be used to really accent the bathroom style you are going for.
