10+ simple hacks to keep your home organized, clean, and beautiful
Simple home-hacks can make a world of a difference in our lives. It’s the subtle but genius touches that make a house more functional, aesthetic, and comfortable. There are so many amazing DIY tricks and hacks that you can try to improve and organize your house without having to spend much money. Here are some of our favorites:
1. Hide your thermostat
Have you ever been bothered by the appearance of a pesky thermostat located in one of your favorite rooms? They aren’t usually built to be the most aesthetic looking household appliances, BUT with this nifty DIY trick, you can hide it from plain view. All you have to do is hang a painting or an art piece of your preference by some hinges and voila! Just lift the painting to change the temperature.
2. Hang a plastic shoe organizer with pockets in your pantry to store your favorite snacks!
All you need to do is hang the shoe organizer, unpack each of your favorite snacks from their original boxes, and stuff each snack into one of the pockets! This is great for a few reasons. First of all, it helps to save space in your pantry and reduce clutter, and secondly, it helps you see all of your snacks so that you know what you have available without having to dig around.
3. Stop buying Swiffer pads
We all love fuzzy socks in the winter, but you know how they kind of get clumpy and less soft after being washed time and time again? Well, turns out that fuzzy socks double as fantastic Swiffer pad alternatives. All you have to do is slide the sock over the Swiffer, clean, and when you’re done you can throw it in the wash and keep reusing it to clean the surfaces in your house!
4. Hang your ironing board with coat hangers
Ironing boards…there just never seems to be a great place to store them. They’re awkwardly shaped and kind of get in the way sometimes. Which is why this hack is great. Just place two coat hangers about 6 inches apart, and then hang your ironing board from them to keep it out of sight!
5. Use command hooks
They’re great for just about anything! These little guys may be small, but they can be a game-changer in your home, especially if you’re on a lease that doesn’t allow you to poke holes in the wall to hang things up with nails. There are so many things that you can do with command hooks, but they’re especially great for hanging curling irons, or medium-weight hangable objects.
6. Use an extra shower rod for storage
So, you love your products, but you don’t have enough space for all of them in the shower. Maybe you’ve even started to put your products on the ground in the shower, and they just keep getting in the way. Well, all you need to do to solve this problem is to install another shower head inside of your shower and hang baskets full of your things along the wall!
7. Hang your pants with shower curtains
If you want to save space in your drawers and consolidate closet space, this is a great trick. All you have to do is hang your pants by their belt-loops from the shower curtain, and they’ll take up significantly less space!
8. Hide a key with a pine cone and a prescription bottle
You can use a rock or something else that is distinguishable in nature as well. All you need to do is place a key inside of a prescription bottle, glue either a pine cone or a rock to the bottle, and then bury the bottle in the ground with the rock or pinecone sticking out.
9. Aluminum foil instead of dryer sheets!
Just roll aluminum into a ball and throw it into the dryer with your clothes! It will have the same effect as a dryer sheet.
10. DIY dry erase board
Use a picture frame with a piece of glass as a dry erase board! Watch this YouTube video for more details.
11. Reuse tissue boxes as plastic bag storage
When your tissue box empties out, just re-stuff it with plastic boxes, and you’ll have a much more aesthetically pleasing storage unit!
12. Tennis ball holder
Glue a suction cup to a tennis ball and slit a hole on the other side. Then just suction the tennis ball to the wall and use the tennis ball to hold pens, mail, dish towels, or whatever else you can fit in there. You can even add googly eyes to make it extra cute.
13. Use a foam noodle as a door stopper!
This one is pretty simple– all you have to do is cut a pool noodle in half and screw it into the wall to prevent slamming doors from scratching up your walls.
