We all know the feeling of coming home.

It is a warm emotion that envelopes us and reminds us that we have finally reached our place of comfort. Whenever we see our home, we instantly feel secure and relaxed because at last, we can find calm and peace after a very long day outside.

Much like humans, animals like dogs are also excited about coming home. And this includes one big, fluffy Saint Bernard named Cosmo.

Cosmo may look like he’s always known fun and love, but his story is unlike this at all.

The 130-pound dog was only a puppy when his breeder abandoned him. It was a good thing that he was sent to the Hearts United for Animals shelter.

It was a puzzle for people at the shelter why anybody would abandon such an adorable puppy like Cosmo. He may be new to the place, but he was able to connect to the people there.

The dog knows how to love and is looking for someone to give it back to him.

Day by day, Cosmo stayed at the shelter waiting patiently on the perfect person to finally bring him to his forever home. It was not a short wait, but one day, the person he has been waiting for finally came.

Jayne was browsing pet adoption sites when she came across Cosmo’s photo online. She instantly fell in love with the dog and wanted to adopt him badly.

The woman immediately contacted the shelter to make arrangements for adopting Cosmo. However, there was one major issue.

Cosmo was in a shelter in Nebraska while Jayne and her husband lives in upstate New York.

It would definitely be a challenge to bring Cosmo to her home, but Jayne was determined to adopt the dog. She found a way and flew to Nebraska to get Cosmo from the shelter.

On the way back to New York, Jayne rented a car to drive interstate and bring Cosmo to their home in the city. It was going to be a long trip on the road, but it was all worth it because it meant Cosmo will finally be home.

Jayne was worried at first, thinking that she and Cosmo might not hit it off.

But as it turned out, the dog warmed up to her quickly.

“I don’t know if Cosmo has any understanding of what’s happening, but I think he understands there’s a human here who wants to give him some love and he’s pretty happy about it,” she shared.

During the very long road trip, Cosmo stayed in the backseat and waited patiently. He enjoyed the scenery but at times, he also looked worried but he was able to stay calm and quiet as he was getting nearer and nearer to his new family.

And finally, the moment of truth.

After a very long drive, Cosmo reached upstate New York and saw his new home for the very first time. He was wary and started to slowly explore the place.

As he roamed around, he met the other dogs of the couple and their giant rabbit. Cosmo instantly jived with Poppy and Grendel! He still is getting used to the big space he now has, but this dog is definitely happy to finally step into his forever home.
