15 furry flight companions that left us shaking our heads
The whole emotional support animal thing has gotten way out of hand (emotional support peacock, anyone?). But that’s partly because dishonest people have used it as a way to get their pets onboard planes without having to pay fees.
While the rules about animals flying in the cabins of planes are getting more strict, we’ve found 15 adorable and/or mind-blowing photos that have us debating whether we wish we had been there or if we’re really glad we weren’t.
Take a look at these animals that someone managed to get on a flight.
1. Emotional support pony
So, yes to this because we totally want a tiny horse to come everywhere with us and boy is this one cute!
But a big HECK NO to being the person who has to sit next to the passenger who brought this animal onboard.
You aren’t supposed to touch support animals (so, theoretically, no petting) – and we wonder how long this creature can hold its bladder, or how it behaves if it’s not a frequent flyer.
2. Daniel the duck
He even has little ducky shoes!
While most people were delighted to see Daniel on a short flight from Charlotte to Ashville, NC, others muttered various criticisms, according to owner Mark Essig.
But did they change their minds when they saw his Captain America diaper and learned that his full name is Daniel Turducken Stinkerbutt?
3. Small plane, big dog
So this is a private twin-engine plane, which is pretty small, but how the heck do you strap in that bear? Or Akita…or whatever.
He doesn’t look pleased – maybe he can borrow Daniel’s diaper.
4. Plane penguin
Hmm. We can’t explain this one.
We just hope the stripes didn’t fool anyone into thinking he or she could serve as co-pilot.
5. That’s cheetah-ing!
Aww, how cute! We’d love to be on a plane with a….wait, baby cheetah?!
This can’t possibly be a regular commercial flight, right?
6. Koalas kickin’ it in first class
Ok, we could only be mad if we didn’t get the first-class upgrade because a koala bear was sitting there instead (they wouldn’t even know they were in coach!).
This is, in fact, a real photo. Qantas Airlines flew four koalas from Brisbane to Singapore to mark the latter’s anniversary of their independence in 2015.
7. The only one awake
See, now this is a disaster waiting to happen.
Do you really get to go to sleep while your tiny hairless cat is stored in your shirt instead of in a safe crate?
8. Just a hop, skip, and a jump
Yep, that’s a kangaroo on an airplane.
Meanwhile, we can’t bring on the $6 bottle of water we bought outside of security.
Then again, this is cuter.
9. Kangaroo 2
Lest you think a kangaroo on a plane was a one-time-only occurrence, we give you a SECOND kangaroo on a plane.
At least this one is more jauntily dressed. Never travel without your pearls!
10. When pigs fly
Turns out that day is today!
Hamlet the Pig got to fly on American Airlines in 2015, but his owner got a fair bit of criticism from commenters who saw the photo.
Alas, his days as an emotional support pig are over now that the rules have changed.
11. Can’t they already fly?
All we want to do is bring a 4oz bottle of face cream on a plane.
But somehow that’s more dangerous than a parrot?
Maybe we’re just bitter that it’s flying first class.
12. Traveling turkey
Be careful what you wish for when you’re keeping your fingers crossed for a flight without babies.
You could end up with something much more anxiety-inducing.
Does it still count as Comfort+ if you have to sit next to a turkey?! We’d want our money back.
13. Squirrel denied
This woman was removed from a flight after she brought on her “emotional support squirrel” and wouldn’t let anyone take it from her.
Newsflash: sometimes you really do have to consider the people around you and they don’t always trust that you’ve properly trained your (adorable) rodent.
14. Surprise!
Gizmo the marmoset got through TSA screening and onto a Frontier Airlines flight from Columbus, Ohio to Las Vegas.
His owner didn’t warn the airline ahead of time so imagine people’s surprise when he stuck his head out of his owner’s shirt!
15. Desmond’s in charge
This is Desmond and safety is not his first concern.
Then again, on a private plane, you only have yourself to blame if the cat freaks out.

Even an animal-lover has to admit things get ridiculous sometimes.
Let’s start considering the people around us rather than just our own convenience when we’re in public, ok?
