15 epic “then and now” photo recreations that will give you all the feels

When you’re a kid, posing for and looking through photos is such a drag. But you appreciate the memories once you get older.

And sometimes you come across such a gem that it’s hard not to try and recreate the magic.

These 15 families did just that and knocked it out of the park with their similarity to the original.

1. Like father, like son

Apparently, dad was a big inspiration to his young son – so much so that he grew up to have the same job.

We’re sad dad lost that awesome mustache, but we’re pleased to see he’s up for trying to get his grown son on his lap.

2. Farewell, Fido

Aww, what a sweet memento of a childhood dog well-loved.

Even the pup tried to recreate his pose for the final family photo.

We had to put my dog of 16 years down yesterday, but before we did we recreated our favourite photo with him from r/pics

3. Spitting image

It must be bittersweet to see the resemblance between son and father in this recreation.

It’s hard to believe that the top picture was taken so soon before his death.

My husband was 3 months old when his father was killed in a car accident. As a Christmas gift to his grandmother this year, we recreated an old photo with our new son. from r/pics

4. Boys to men

Well, they’ve gained a few inches in every direction (haven’t we all?) but these brothers are so lucky to be able to recreate the photo 35 years later with smiles on their faces.

We wonder how long ago the car left the family.

5. Daddy’s little girl

This photo went viral for all the right reasons back in 2018.

The best part is that dad looks just as happy looking up at his daughter as he did looking down at her.

6. Go, grandma

We want to know grandma’s secret to barely aging!

How proud she must be to see that Harvard dream come true.

7. Tradition

It almost feels like this might not be a purposeful recreation but rather just something these two have done every day for a quarter of a decade.

8. Holiday memories

Now had she cut some bangs to really get the original quality, this would be an A+.

But we can still give it an A for dad being able to make the exact same face no matter how old his kids get.

9. Service with a sense of humor

Apparently, there are a lot of manly men willing to put their adult sons on their laps just to recreate a photo!

This is quite a study in changes in camouflage over time as well.

Nearly 30 years elapsed; just before my retirement, we re-created my favorite photo of my oldest son & I… from r/pics

10. Down to the last detail

Wait, is that the same toy horse?!

This is a stellar effort on the part of these women for finding the same clothing and toys to recreate the picture.

11. Out for a drive

Well, we hope they didn’t leave the toy abandoned again like that.

Although it does lend an eerie quality to the whole scene.

12. Still sassy

This one made us giggle out loud.

Excellent recreation – and that’s clearly her signature look.

13. Two decades of Mother’s Day

We just want to know if mom plans to display the latest photo next to her favorite.

It definitely makes for a heck of a conversation piece!

14. Another excuse to wear white

How many first communion photos do you think get recreated at weddings?

It’s probably more than we imagine once those brides put on their veils and have flashbacks to childhood.

My sister got married over the weekend, so we recreated this gem from our childhood. from r/PastAndPresentPics

15. Always there

Dad might still be there for you, but we hope someday he teaches you to use a water fountain properly!

From the beginning, he’s always been giving me a helping hand. 23 years later, I’ve graduated from college and he’s still there for me when I need him. from r/pics
