15 of the most perplexing design fails that make us wonder about quality control

Design and marketing require skill. And yet, it appears plenty of bad work gets through and makes it onto products that hit the shelves.

Are there no focus groups? No bosses checking their employees’ work? No editors making sure things are correct?

In these 15 cases, the answer is no.

1. When life gives you lemons…

This is why we like our orange juice fresh-squeezed.

You never know what people are putting in there when it’s pre-made!

2. Why won’t this play?

You’re going to be pressing play for a long time on this audio file.

But don’t worry, it’s 00:00 minutes long anyway.

3. The majestic jeopard

Just wait until your kid asks to go to the zoo to see the jeopards – they’re going to be pretty bummed. Maybe take them to see the laguars instead.

We’re not sure who was in charge of making this “educational” toy, but next time the company should be sure to hire someone who knows the alphabet.

That seems like a pretty low bar for employment, but…well…

4. We’re so confused

Do we pour it in our cereal or our washing machine?

Neither, it turns out. It’s hair bleach.

Apparently the marketing team behind this gem was trying to play on the words “See real” (or cereal) and didn’t quite care enough about possibly killing people to see the error of their ways.

5. Literally?

You might be tempted to lose your cool when your kids are fighting in the car, but they should remain intact. It’s the law.

If you’re going to pull them apart, do it figuratively.

6. The dentist isn’t that bad

We hope the dentist who ordered this banner sent it back. That profession has enough of a PR problem.

We think it’s going to take more than novocaine to dull the pain of this apparent execution.

7. You’re using it wrong

Treat your magazine the right way by buying it its own inflatable camper mat.

Meanwhile, you just hope the ground isn’t wet. That’s where you’ll be laying.

8. Attention

You can’t read it straight down or across.

At this point, we’d just take the trolley. It’s pretty rude not to share anyway.

9. Don’t do it!

Apparently, this is a pamphlet for college alumni donations.

But it’s more likely to remind them of their student loan debt.

10. That’s intentional

We’re mystified by the design on this carpet. It’s not a stain. No bleeding body was dragged through the hallways (although no one would be the wiser if you decided to do that).

Someone made this hotel carpet look this way on purpose!

11. Wake up!

Well, that’ll get your day started the wrong way.

This eye-gouging cup is cute but not terribly functional.

12. Not a reason to smile

Sometimes “no” is the good answer.

13. We might have missed a day of history class

I guess that time we had mono back in high school we ended up missing 9 world wars.

Who won 3-11?

14. Then why bother?

If we’re going to run and still be “fat forever,” then so be it.

We’re going to skip shelling out for a membership at this gym.

15. Yoda-vational

Hit yourself you will 3 months from now.

And when you do, you can thank the people on the 3rd floor.
