2-year-old asks mom to adopt deaf puppy after falling in love through bedroom window
Meet Moz, the deaf puppy who looks like Falkor from “The Neverending Story.”
Even though foster doggy dad Thom McCallum describes him as “just this scrawny, hairless, weird-looking stray,” this scrappy little guy is insanely adorable!
Maybe that’s why the puppy’s 2-year-old neighbor started crushing on him real hard every time she saw him walk past her bedroom window.
Thom is exactly the kind of guy everyone should have in their neighborhood. Seriously, he’s like a furry-friendly Mr. Rogers, who fosters rescues dogs and then adopts them out to their forever families.
And lucky for him, they don’t actually make it very far.
That’s because most of the dogs are taken in by people who live right down the street!

When Thom first brought Moz into his home, the tiny pooch was so tuckered-out from life as a stray that he slept for almost two days straight. After his eyes finally popped open, he was given a warm bath and lots of cuddles.
But that’s not all that was waiting for him!
Thom had three other fosters who showed Moz how to be a zoomie-loving doggo.
“The way that my other fosters fostered him was a beautiful thing,” Thom told The Dodo.
While Thom nurtured Moz back to health, the four-legged adults mentored the pup, played with him, and really helped him come out of his shell.
Since he was small and portable, Thom would sometimes tote Moz around in a backpack on their daily walks. They usually strolled past the same houses, including one in particular where 2-year-old Lillian lives.
The sweet girl normally spends her days gazing out window, enjoying the slow and easy life, but the moment she laid her eyes on the cute backpack puppy, it was game over!
Every time Thom and his foster dogs make their rounds, Lillian can’t wait to rush outside to greet them! But it’s mostly Moz who grabs her attention.
One day Thom let the toddler help him with his walking duties, and that’s when he saw their friendship began to truly blossom.
Mom Lauren said, “She was really excited to get to walk Moz. They’re small and kind of similar size, similar pace of life.”
When Thom had to go out of town on a business trip for two weeks, he asked the family to dog-sit for him. It was obvious that Lillian and Moz were meant to be together forever! As Thom so cleverly put it:
“The girl who can’t stop talking and the guy who can’t hear anything.”
The 2-year-old was really supportive of Moz while Thom was away. When teaching him to “stay” she even gave him positive affirmations by telling him, “You can do this.”
Of course the puppers couldn’t hear a word, but they still understood each other. That’s what makes their connection so amazing!
When Thom returned from his trip, he wasn’t surprised to learn that Moz had already found his forever home – which is conveniently located only two blocks away from him. What a lucky guy!
