Instagram isn’t real life. From filters to Facetune to Photoshop, some people simply can’t leave a photo untouched before posting it.

And while we understand that the lighting may not be ideal sometimes or you may want to crop something out of a photo, it’s a whole other issue to make yourself look “ideal” (whatever that is) using software – especially when these photos are presented as authentic and make other people feel bad about themselves.

In fact, more and more people are seeking out plastic surgery as a result of Instagram!

Here are 20 Instagrammers that took it one (or several) steps too far and got called out on it big time.

1. Unreal

Ok, can we all agree that the woman in this photo looks entirely computer-generated? She’s edited her photo so much she no longer looks human.

But once you see her reflection, you’ll see the truth.

2. Fembots

We don’t know whose idea this was, but it’s pretty easy to tell that there’s nothing authentic about the faces in this photo.

From their alien eyes to their artificially smoothed out skin and whitened teeth, this is clearly the work of Facetune.

3. Six-pack sham

This kind of behavior certainly isn’t limited to women.

We guess this guy decided that Photoshopping some abs onto his stomach would be easier than just being himself.

Too bad it’s so comically executed.

4. And your little dog too

Ok, we know Mariah Carey is hooked on Photoshop, but did she have to get her dog involved?

Someone smoothed out this photo so hard that they forgot that the dog doesn’t have an ego to protect.

5. Tampering with the 10-year challenge

Dude, why?

We know you have ribs in there.

We’re concerned that someone who would try to pass this off as real has some serious body dysmorphia.

6. Beware the original

If you’re going to alter a photo, you best be sure the original isn’t floating around online somewhere.

Imagine thinking that if you worked out hard enough your body might look like that. It’s impossible!

That’s not even how humans are shaped!

7. Not even the sunglasses are real

What the heck is this?

It’s certainly not the shape of a human!

And this is someone’s mother!

Why is a full-grown adult who knows the dangers of unrealistic expectations even trying to show off this fake bod on Instagram?!

8. Are those fingers?

We hate to break it to this person, but we all have lines on our hands.

Someone needs to lay off the Facetune smoother tool.

9. Follicular forgery

No wonder we can’t get our stylists to make our hair look like the photos – it’s not even real!

This toner does not come in a bottle, only in a button form.

10. That’s politics for ya

This woman is running for mayor and we just hope her platform isn’t as fake as her Instagram face.

Does she realize people are eventually going to meet her in person?

How are they supposed to recognize her from this photo?!

11. For real?

Is she part spider?

It’s hard to even notice how fake her breasts look when we’re so distracted by those ridiculous legs.

There’s no reason to let that pizza go to waste if you’re just going to alter your body anyway!

12. Organ donor

Can we just accept that you need to leave enough room to account for all of your organs when you cinch your waist with a swipe?

13. Counterfeit chin

No one is that smooth, ok?

This woman clearly hit the double smooth on Facetune and went over her chin and neck so many times they blended together.

14. Dangerously doctored

At first we thought it might just be her waist that’s been doctored, but then what’s up with that arm? Why is it so long?

15. Bogus bright eyes

Oh honey, no. First of all, you need some sunscreen.

Second, we just want to know if she added a pair of fake eyes or if she just altered her own.

They’re staring into our soul – in the bad way.

16. The wall warp warning

She insists its authentic, but the warped wall behind her and the weird back forearm tell a different story.

Why go this far? No one’s torso is that tiny – because we have organs and bones in there!

17. Almost human

There’s nothing real here.

We just hope any impressionable young women who looked at this realize that it’s unattainable.

18. Lighting lies

We didn’t realize lighting could bend the wood behind you in order to make your torso look thinner.

That really is some good lighting.

And this is a shame too because she really is fit.

19. What a waist

She has over 1 million followers on Instagram.

What she doesn’t have is cheekbones or pores.

20. Tats and torso

Is anything here accurate?

There’s smoothing, lengthening – and we’re honestly skeptical that that’s even a real tattoo.
