20 cats who decided a stranger’s house was their own

Cats do pretty much whatever they want.
Do they always get away with it? No. But that hasn’t stopped them from trying.
For most cats, home is wherever they decide it is – even if it’s a stranger’s house or garage or porch.
The Facebook group “My house, not my cat” collects photos from people who got a cat the easy way – by just letting one show up.
Here are 20 of our favorite examples:
1. “My couch, not my cat”
This cat has decided to come by every day during quarantine and even sleeps in bed with the homeowners sometimes.
We think it’s well on its way to becoming their cat. At the very least, the couch seems to belong to him or her now.

2. “My house, my best friend, but not my cat (or hers!)”
We see an open door back there!
But the best part is the look on this cat’s face like “you invited me to this party, why am I not having more fun?”

3. “I went to my kitchen to get my washing out of the machine and feed my cats, but walked into five cats in my kitchen. I only have three!”
The more the merrier!
Apparently, cats multiple when you’re not looking.

4. “My living room, my gray cat, not my cat in the box”
It’s pretty clear that the resident cat is about to kick some feline butt if that stranger doesn’t get out of his box.
The stranger looks ready for anything.

5. “This handsome fella was clearly living in my house, without my knowledge for a while”
This person heard a strange meowing and found out days later that it was a cat.
He had traveled 10 miles away from his owner, who didn’t want him back.
So now, technically, it is their cat AND their house.

6. “…neighbor’s cat creepin’ on my snack and beverage”
Looks like someone’s in the mood for margaritas!
Hey, even cats need an after-dinner relaxer sometimes.

7. “Also my house and also not my cat but she is welcome”
We might not be so understanding to see the hairball in our bathtub move.
Then again, this is a different kind of hairball problem.

8. “These 2 showed up separately and became friends – neither will come into the house”
Now that’s double trouble if we’ve ever seen it!
We love that these two met at someone else’s house.

9. “My house, my dog, not my cat”
We’re not sure whose face says it all.
The cat looks more nervous, but we’re still pretty confident it got something it wanted before moving along.

10. “Not my cat version 2 is sure she should live with us…”
Actually, she looks like she’s checked the place out and is going to keep looking at apartments.
But she’ll get back to you by the end of the month.

11. “My mom sent me this, neither of these cats belong to my parents”
Ok, but what’s one doing on the INSIDE?
We don’t know who is going to win this fight but we already know the humans are going to lose.

12. “We know of three other flats he visits but have no idea who he belongs to”
Well, at least we know whose lingerie he likes!
Apparently, Buddy belongs to someone because he’s had some injuries patched up by a vet.
But he began visiting this couple the day they moved in – and has come back every day since.

13. “My baby’s bassinet, not my cat”
Ok, now that’s creepy.
We assume the child is still around somewhere.

14. He will pop back to his house late afternoon, bring back a fresh chicken wing and put it in his bowl and eat it here. Absolute legend
Carl isn’t allowed inside his own house, so he brings his chicken wings where the nice people live.
We’re just surprised he hasn’t taken advantage of the leather furniture.

15. “Crumpet sits on my decking each and every morning and stares through the door awaiting his daily tribute”
According to the people that Crumpet has decided to adopt:
“He’ll pretty much consume anything. Biscuits, leftovers, a small child, the soul of a loved one… whatever.”
We believe it.

16. “This is my bathroom…. this is not my cat! This is my neighbor’s cat Ted!”
Bold move, Ted. Way to be a total perv.
We’re not sure we’d be amused by a stranger in our bathroom when we went to take a bath.

17. “The cat on the right is not my cat. He would very much like to be my cat”
The cat on the left lives there and looks like he’s confident he can rid himself of this interloper.
Luckily, the invading cat’s family wants him back as well.

18. “He waits patiently for one of my two cats to come out OR for my youngest (arm pictured) to deliberately open the screen door to let him in”
At first, we thought this was antagonistic but it turns out the cat is just letting his friend inside.
If your cat goes through the trouble of learning how to open the screen door, resistance if futile.

19. “My family, our new house and definitely NOT our cat”
This cat belongs to the whole neighborhood and since the former homeowner used to feed him, the new tenants get to feed him as well.
We loved that he crashed their “new home” photo. He’s part of the family now!

20. “This is Artie, he lives next door, we also regularly find him asleep on our bed”
It looks like Artie is a little annoyed by the paparazzi.
He’s thinking “I didn’t sneak into your house just to have you take my photo – so rude!”

Of course, when cats find new homes, there are some people left behind. Here’s someone who had the opposite problem – seeing their cat peering our of someone else’s house!
