20 times dogs ended up being a different breed than owners anticipated

Imagine you’ve wanted a corgi for a long time and finally make the move to bring one into your home. Of course, you’re excited. But as time goes on you see the legs grow long and realize, you don’t have what you expected. Well, this has happened to many people.

Most rescue puppies are only a guess by the shelter as to what breed they are. It’s an educated guess though, as shelter workers see tons of dogs but, there is a chance a dominant breed in your pup will be missed.

None the less, these 20 examples of people who got bamboozled by their dogs still ended up with a loving friend to add to their family.

1. More bang for the buck

The perfect example of why you should take everything you’re told in life with a grain of salt…

“He’s a hound mix…they said. He will be 45 lbs max… they said. They didn’t say he was mixed with Great Dane. And that he would be 45 lbs when he was 4 months old. Loki is now a comfortable 100 lbs.”

2. Short German shepherd

If your German shepherd is a shorty, chances are you’re missing a breed in his genetic makeup somewhere. Thankfully, that doesn’t make him any less lovable.

“Mine is a German shepherd that is too close to the floor and with well-pronounced eyebrows.”

3. You asked for a dog but you got a horse

Horses are great, too…they just require quite a bit more food and space than their canine counterparts.

“Been there…” it will be a medium-sized dog”, they said. Now here I am, raising a pony.”

4. The gift that keeps on giving

Okay, so he might not be the curly-Q they were expecting, but nothing can beat that smile!

“The “poodle” that my sister gave to my parents as a gift.”

5. Biggest beagle on the planet

Maybe it’s a beagle with giganticism?

“Our Little Girl was speculated to be a Beagle mix. However, I don’t believe I’ve ever met a 70 lb Beagle mix before 😂 But we love her, whatever she is!”

6. No expectation

Yeah…we don’t think anyone saw that coming.

“I didn’t know what Benecio would look like but, I never expected him to look like this.”

7. It became a two for one

Sometimes the best things in life emerge from the unexpected.

“The shelter said boxer mix. After doing Wisdom Panel, we found out he’s 50% American Staffordshire Terrier, 12.5% Australian Shepherd, 12.5% Australian Cattle Dog, 12.5% Mastiff (😳) and 12.5% other. 77 lbs of good boy.”

8. It was all lies

Or maybe the person who gave them that estimation was a little drunk that day?

“I was told it would be the size of a Cocker spaniel. Maybe you feed him too much?”

9. With ears to prove it

That money will go to a good cause; treats!

“They told me it was a pit bull. I was tricked for sure. Get your money back but, keep your awesome dog.”

10. Dorkie Chorkie

She gets the best of both worlds.

“My “purebred chihuahua”. The vet says 1/2 chihuahua and 1/2 yorkshire terrier. I love my dorkie chorkie.”

11. Not even close

Well… at least they got one of the breeds on the list right.

“Purebred Jack Russell. DNA tests have confirmed Chihuahua with some pomeranian, Jack Russell is 7th down the list of composite breeds next to great Dane 😂”

12. Still very cute

And made of pure love.

“Was told she was a Shih Tzu come to find she is a poodle Jack Russel mix.”

13. Maybe some in there

They technically didn’t lie…

“She’s allegedly a rottweiler. Still beautiful.”

14. Those beautiful eyes

This might have just been the universe’s way of suggesting it’s time for a house.

“I was told he would be a small apartment dog, 4 years and 20 pounds later, still beautiful, still the Love of my life.”

15. Half lab, half angry chihuahua

A golden retriever. No doubt they were wrong, and this owner was duped.

16. Hairy Canary

Thankfully, he doesn’t seem to be self-conscious about his weight.

“This guy was supposed to be a mix between a mini-pincher and a jack russel terrier. He now weighs more than 11kg.”

17. Whoops!

Don’t feel too bad, it happens to the best of us.

“If you’ve ever been tricked, just know that I was told this boy would be a poodle.”

18. A sweet girl

That’s 35 pounds of extra love and loyalty!

“My “50 lb lab mix” grew into a sweet, beautiful 85 lb Rottweiler/boxer! Wouldn’t have her any other way. Pictured with my mom on her natural habitat (the lap).”

19. You’re not wrong

It’s like evolution is happening right before our eyes!

“Mine is halfway to becoming a dalmatian.”

20. It does look pretty strong

This is what happens when life cuts your dreams off at the knees. We still wouldn’t wanna mess with him, though.

“It was supposedly a boxer.”
