20 hilarious clothing fails that made us do a double-take

There are times when you saw someone wearing apparel so strange, you found yourself asking “How the heck did that end up being sold?” But more importantly, who in the right mind would buy an item of clothing so questionable and wrong on so many levels. You’d just assume they’re doing it for laughs, and wish they brought some spare clothes to change into.

From wrong puns to misplaced prints, to clothes that are just downright dysfunctional, we got it all. Better check your dresser and see if there’s a design faux pas that’s just waiting for the right time to embarrass you.

Here are 20 clothing design fails so unbelievable it will make you look twice.

1. How in the world?

It’s a pair of shorts and a pullover. That is, unless you have arms on your hips. Or maybe it could work if you have two heads on two necks? This piece right here poses more questions than answers.

2. There’s something so inspiring around here

Reddit - zapsquad Source: Reddit - zapsquad

There’s a Bobby McFerrin reference here somewhere. But since we can’t find it, we’ll just take it as it is. Don’t be happy, friend, worry. Okay, wait, what?

3. So metal

Reddit - robb0688 Source: Reddit - robb0688

At first glance, you’d assume that the person wearing this is into some kind of fringe stuff. The kind of fringe that will make the parents in the 80s lock their doors when you walk the street. Until you realize that this person is also a fan of the hit romance movie of a giant ship and some iceburgs.

4. Explosive performance

Reddit - chonnes Source: Reddit - chonnes

Yup, you really need the bat in there because if you remove that one entirely, people would think you’re participating in to competitive Number Two’s. It begs the question, what kind of “super”, though? Super big mounds or super explosive ones?

5. Caaaaaaat

Reddit - KevlarYarmulke Source: Reddit - KevlarYarmulke

This one easily falls under “designs that are not so well thought off”. It’s just a “cat” when you pull it out of the drawer. Then it becomes “caaaaat” when you pull it up your ankles. Fast fashion never fails to deliver products so crappy.

6. I’m seeing a pattern here

Reddit - SMallery Source: Reddit - SMallery

If the statement shirt starts with a big cursive “Don’t” with a smaller statement enclosed in a box, that’s where you do a double-take. The only time this could be barely acceptable is when you wear it in your local AA meeting.

7. FinalFinalDesignForPrinting_V12.JPG

Reddit - Dradicus100 Source: Reddit - Dradicus100

When this design was about to hit the printer, no one noticed the filename above? Did they think that the cliff face was named “DSC005569.JPG”? Was something so inspiring in that filename that they thought it was part of the design? Are we seeing what they’re seeing?

8. The Real Super (S)hitters

Reddit- GallowBoob Source: Reddit- GallowBoob

One redditor voiced out what most of us were already thinking. They said “First this had to be approved by the creative director; a prototype would be made to be worn by a model; they would have to order thousands of them; they’d have to make a deal with a store to carry it; finally a consumer would have to try it on, look at their ass in the mirror and still decide it’s a good idea to wear this dress in public. At any point in this process, did anyone decide to rethink the color, or even placement?”

9. Haven’t moved on

Reddit - problemfinding Source: Reddit - problemfinding

While the declaration was written on 1776 and ended on 1783, someone hasn’t moved on from the events of the revolution. Or maybe the revolution was just an illusion and all along, the United States have always been ruled by a queen. I guess only the designer knows.

10. Well, they said it was “custom”

Reddit - regarfarmer Source: Reddit - regarfarmer

The post says “They said it was custom; they said I would never have a shirt fit like this…” and technically, they’re right. If you don’t have arms that long it shouldn’t be your business wearing those. Put it back in the pants section, please?

11. Hang loose, yo!

Reddit - getstereohyped Source: Reddit - getstereohyped

This redditor shared that their 90-year-old grandma gifted her this “Hawaiian” shirt. Well, if she’s in her 40’s in the 60’s, we say your grandma knows exactly what she’s talking about. Don’t panic, bro. It’s organic.

12. RIP America

Reddit - entredeuxeaux Source: Reddit - entredeuxeaux

Wait, what the heck happened in 1991? How did the United States of America end in 1991? I thought it was the USSR?

13. You said you liked pockets!

Reddit - orionsbelt05 Source: Reddit - orionsbelt05

Girls said they love it when their dresses have pockets but you don’t have to be a dud about it. But you know who’s more of a dud? The woman’s husband who bought this for her.

14. Just. Stop.

Reddit - sophieyuh Source: Reddit - sophieyuh

If you pay close attention, you’d know that this shirt is trying to communicate. We just can’t seem to string the words together but it’s trying. Wait, we’re looking at a distress message, aren’t we?

15. I did me a zoology

Reddit - wickedlovley328 Source: Reddit - wickedlovley328

The best part about this shirt is how everyone seemed to stare at it and not figure out what’s wrong. Some of them even had to scroll to the comments section to know what people were laughing about. Well, in their defense, rhinos look like hippo-unicorns.

16. I miss the days when we didn’t know

Reddit Source: Reddit

The designer of this dress is so sinisterly sneaky. The poster said that their mom was wearing this for years and they only noticed the design recently. Imagine the looks their mom got from strangers before they discovered!

17. 100% authentic

Reddit - CamRourke23 Source: Reddit - CamRourke23

Sometimes, you’ll wonder why people still buy really awful knockoffs. This pair has four stripes instead of three and is almost in the same font as the German sportswear brand. It spelled an entirely different word and it still somehow ended up on someone’s foot.

18. Something something starts with an “A”

Reddit - nvernon123 Source: Reddit - nvernon123

One can theorize that the conversation was concluded when someone answered “Something that starts with an ‘A’.” and “Also, we’re about to run out of ink so make the word short.” Someone should start a clothing brand based on misplaced names.

19. The heck do I know?

Reddit Source: Reddit

Hey, don’t look at us. Our guess is as good as yours! Maybe they have extra zippers they needed to get rid off?

20. We have a winner!

Reddit - Sphinx74 Source: Reddit - Sphinx74

Contrary to the theme of this list, we are pretty sure that the guy who designed this shirt knows exactly what he was doing. A great nod to that Saturday Night Live episode that was “sofa king” great!

There you have it, 20 clothes you hope you don’t have in your closet. And if you do, just prepare to see yourself on the internet. If you looked stupid in it, get a good laugh from it at least. After all, you can always change into something else.
