20 online shopping fails that show us sometimes you just need to buy things in person
Online shopping can make life so much easier – sometimes.
Of course, reading the fine print is very important – as is avoiding online scammers and other dishonest dealers that advertise something much different than what they’re truly selling.
These 20 shoppers got quite a surprise when their items showed up in the mail. They’re certainly nothing like the online photos – sometimes hilariously so.
We just hope they were able to get their money back for these disastrous purchases.
1. Jacked-up jumpsuit
We love that this person had enough of a sense of humor to photograph herself in this monstrosity and post the side-by-side so we could see just how tough online shopping can be.
The cut, color, and fabric are ALL different from what’s advertised – and honestly, we’re wondering if anyone could possibly look good in that outfit on the right.
2. Skillet sizing
Who could have guessed that that photo on the right was of a cherry tomato and a quail egg?
And who on Earth truly needs a pan this small?
Whatever diet you might be on that restricts your food that much is a bad one!
3. Sexy sabotage
We’re pretty sure this goes beyond a sizing problem. Even the shoulder straps are wrong.
But maybe she can save it for Halloween if she wants to go as “sexy peasant girl.”
4. Size matters
Ah, yes, the infamous arm-knitted blankets. Nearly anyone who has tried to purchase one knows about the sizing issues (and the true cost of one the size that the woman is holding – hundreds!).
On the bright side, this one is going to be a cute potholder.
5. Sheepskin rug or Einstein’s toupee?
Oh, c’mon, Walmart, that’s just mean.
Whose shoes are those on the side of the rug in the photo? A baby’s?
Then again, Redditors did find the original description which clearly stated it was 30×30 CENTIMETERS.
This is what happens when we don’t familiarize ourselves with the metric system.
6. Shrinkage
Well, there’s just no excuse for this one.
While the general idea is the same on the real version, it looks like the factory forgot to put the torso on the sweater.
That’s not an ideal place for pockets.
We hope that wasn’t final sale!
7. Couch with a catch
Ok, so the poster said it was a mere $43ish, but we’d still expect to get something that remotely looked like the item advertised.
It’s brown, but that’s pretty much the only similarity.
We’d be pretty annoyed to have to ship that back.
8. Queasy Yeezys
Hey, we have no sympathy for people who buy fakes – counterfeit clothing is a major problem and the money spent often goes on to fund other illegal endeavors.
You want some Yeezys? Buy the real ones. Otherwise, you deserve what you get.
9. Spoiled surprise
Online shopping often involves a lot of automation. A computer doesn’t know how to comprehend your “delivery instructions.” And, to be fair, even a person packing the box wouldn’t have time to read it.
So much for that surprise!
10. Terror in taffeta
Wow. This looks like a Pinterest fail more than anything.
Where did the original seller even get that photo on the left? Certainly not from the factory where they make the dresses.
11. Show us your muscles
Online fashion disasters happen to men too.
Props to this guy for showing customers what they really get when they order this muscle tank from Amazon – a skin-tight women’s party dress.
We don’t think this is going to be his most comfortable option for arm day at the gym.
12. Face the facts
Are you having self-care time with your old American Girl doll? If so, you probably don’t want to put that on her face either. Who knows what it’s soaked in?
Apparently, this is a “sample-sized” product, meant for patch testing. But that still leaves us with the question: why make it look like a face mask? Do you really want a red splotch in that shape on your body?
13. Flamingo fail
Yet another missing torso.
The buyer could turn this into a skirt, but even the bottom portion is slightly different than what’s advertised.
14. That’s not how mermaids work
Ok, they’re mythical creatures, but isn’t the whole point of a mermaid that she doesn’t have feet?
So what do you see in the IRL version – udders or pig hooves?
15. Comical costume caper
Frankly, we think Deadpool would have found this costume hilarious.
Maybe the guy who bought it can go as Deadpool dressed as a low-budget, half-melted version of himself for Halloween.
16. Even the cat hates it
Well, this was never going to look classy, but you would think that it would at least show up in human size.
This poor cat is never living down this photo.
17. F for effort
Does the person who made this hate the royal couple or really feel like they nailed it?
We like the addition of spelling errors and the wrong wedding date as well.
As expected, everyone was wondering where they could buy this demented dish.
18. Do-it-yourself
This guy posted a photo of what his wife received two months after she purchased this cactus cat scratcher off of Instagram – “just a bag of rope with no instructions, or wood, or packing slip.”
Good luck!
19. Color confusion
There’s a lot to laugh at here after someone who ordered a Russian flag patch got an LGBTQI flag patch instead.
To be fair, the quality looks good.
20. Fudging photos
Thes makers of the original found out a Chinese website was using their stolen photos to sell a knock-off item, so they ordered the knock off and placed it next to their own authentic version.
It just goes to show that if you’re going to be dishonest enough to steal photos, you probably aren’t making anything of quality.
We just hope no high school mascot had to try to wear the fake mask!

Apparently, sometimes it’s easier to just go to the store and check something out first.
Remember to always read the fine print and avoid buying anything you can’t return!
