20 “my house, but not my cat” posts that will have you in stitches

Have you ever had a cat show up at your house and linger around? Maybe you feed it, and it starts to come around even more? While this would be the most common scenario for a strange cat to enter your life, some people have come to find cats in there home.

It begins to feel like people aren’t adopting street cats, but rather the cats are deciding to move into the house on their own. Apparently, there are enough stories of this happening that a Facebook group has dedicated itself to the concept. It’s called “My House, Not My Cat.”

The group was started by Stephanie Holcomb back in 2016. She loved the memes that were coming out with “my house, not my cat.” She thought they were hilarious. Thus deciding to make a community for people to share their pictures and their stories.

We’ve gathered 20 of our favorites and shared them here, so you don’t have to scroll through the masses.

1. This is Crumpet

“Crumpet sits on my decking each and every morning and stares through the door awaiting his daily tribute.

He’ll pretty much consume anything.

Biscuits, leftovers, a small child, the soul of a loved one… whatever.

All hail our super fluffy ginger overlord.”

2. The universe found her

This little cat was taken to the vet, and they found she was microchipped. They found the owner and turns out she had been missing for two years! The owner was so thrilled to have her back.

3. That’s how you lure in a cat

The trick is apparently bacon. So if you want a cat, always carry some bacon with you.

5. The gift that keeps on giving

“This is Swirl, who was my cat, the kitten is not. He loved kittens and would steal people’s kittens and bring them home. He’s no longer with us, so I miss those days of coming home to a random kitten in the house.”

6. Success Story

It only took a few months for Amelia Pond to go from “my house, not my cat” to “how’d you get so fat?!?”

For more than 20 years, we’d been a dogs-only family. One day about 4 1/2 years ago, Amelia decided it was time to change that. She randomly showed up at our house, super skinny but otherwise very healthy…and then never left ๐Ÿ˜‚ We really think she was dumped, because she was SO super friendly and *completely* unafraid of people…she SPRINTED inside the house the moment we opened the door and jumped in our laps! Now she’s living as a cat should be, rotund and lazy and happy ๐Ÿงก

7. I guess it’s not my water

Ted managed to get over from the neighbor’s house for a drink. I’m sure he was just as tired of staying inside as we all are.

8. Ted strikes again

It appears Ted is a regular at this house. Now, he’s lying by the pool. Someone, bring him a drink.

9. Staring contest, go!

I’m confused as to how they got into this situation. Cats simply do not care, and this makes it apparent that it’s a cat world, and we’re just living in it.

10. Derp

Mr. Black is the neighbor’s cat and looks pretty awesome to me! I’d love to have this face come to visit daily.

11. Freak out moment

You go to pull your laundry out and notice that your three cats have now turned into five. How do they keep getting in?

12. The story of how I adopted a cat

She left her door open for too long, and this little speedster came in and plopped down on the floor. She lured him back outside, but all he did was continue to snuggle and try and get back inside. She caved.

13. “Kick-it Carl”

He doesn’t think of one house as his only house. He sees the world as his home and uses all the space that he can.

14. Neighborhood cats can be the best, like Mittens

“My carport, not my cat. Mittens is a stray that’s fixed in our neighborhood who always runs to me when I come home, I have two insulated shelters for her outside since its cold. She gets fed 6-7 times a day between me and the old lady next door! Very loving, always jumps up on my shoulders. She’s a part of my daily routine! I always check on her multiple times a day, and 2-3 times a night to make sure she’s comfy in her shelter. I’m ordering her a collar to officially adopt her, and if I ever move, she’s coming with me! Working cats need love too!”

15. You never know when you’ll be graced with kittens

The shed-cat has become a mama-cat. She has a few friends that are interested in adopting the kittens but, she’s starting to think she just might keep them.

16. Picture or it didn’t happen

So here we have it. It happened. All of a sudden you’ve got a new cat. This seems to happen frequently in the laundry area of a home. Must be because cats are clean freaks.

17. Ralph goes on a ride

Cats are known to be lazy. Why would Ralph walk around the neighborhood when he can ride in style?

18. You got a two for one

Both of the neighbor animals came for a visit. I think it’s safe to say we all feel a bit more confident of getting out when we do it with a friend.

19. Slap me some skin

“THIS is Tux! His family moved in behind us late last year & he comes to watch us through our glass door multiple times a day, for hours at a time. He waits patiently for one of my two cats to come out OR for my youngest (arm pictured) to deliberately open the screen door to let him in.”

20. My flat, not my cat

All it takes is one time. Once a cat shows up for the first time, you can count on seeing it again. Maybe for the rest of your life?
