20 pets that nearly gave their owners a heart attack

We get pets because their cute, and because they can be fantastic for relieving stress. If only things were always that easy. Yes, some pets instead excel at giving us anxiety. Whether it’s your cat knocking over expensive things, your dog eating things it shouldn’t be, or a bird that likes to fly way too close to electric fans and fireplaces.

“My pet almost gave me a heart attack” is a pretty common thing, and here’s 20 pets doing exactly that. Hey, it’s not like they do this stuff on purpose.

1. You seem awfully chill for someone who lost an arm.

Well, we’re off to a good start. Who wouldn’t have a heart attack at the sight of this? That, and why is this toy shaped so convincingly like a cat’s arm?

2. Carcharoth indeed.

Reddit - u/BigDende Source: Reddit - u/BigDende

When Reddit user BigDende shared this with the r/prancingponypod subreddit, he was pretty quick to reference Carcharoth from The Silmarillion. With how deceptively toothy this dog looks, I could totally see this doggy guarding Angband and dueling with Beren and Luthien.

3. Whatcha got there…oh.

I’ve got to admit, it’d be pretty funny to scare people this way. Stick a cow or a pig’s leg into a human shoe and watch the look on people’s faces. That is, until you run into that one guy who knows his anatomy and goes “The foreleg is made of the tibia and fibula, and there is clearly only one bone in that shoe”. Like, okay dude, we get it.

4. We’ve got a hole new problem.

Optical illusions are always a treat, but even more so when you see on in real life. This cat’s belly patch is doing an awfully good job of looking like a hole in its side.

5. Guess he’s just logging off.

Man, people are so inconsiderate with their timber. Hey, if you’ve got enough lumber for construction and firewood, at least clean up the leftover wood you don’t need. This one’s already got a dog growing out of it.

6. New Dark Souls boss just dropped.

Do y’all remember Chaos Witch Quelaag. You know, the woman whose top half was sitting on top of a giant, lava-spewing spider? Yeah, I wonder if this is her dog. Still, I wouldn’t mind petting it.

7. There isn’t a shadow of doubt.

I don’t doubt for one second that this dog gave a few people heart attacks. You’d need to get closer to see that distinct doggy snoot before you can relax. This Shiba Inu looks a whole lot more like Cheems, ready to bonk us for thinking he’s a tiger. He also looks quite a lot like a Thylacine, wouldn’t you say?

8. It looks more grim that it actually is.

Candy the Corgi, like most dogs when they were young, can get playfully curious a lot. After rolling around in some fruit juice, the corgi made a sight that’d make most people light-headed. It’s just fruit juice, everyone. Calm down!

9. Did you do a double take?

This image made the rounds quite a bit, in no small part to the optical trickery. I also thought I was looking at a pig’s head for a few seconds, until I discerned which bits were the nose and which ones were the ears.

10. I always feel like somebody’s watching me.

Your ceiling may be waterproof, but is it catproof? Better be prepared for your cat to spy on you from the ceiling every now and then.

11. “Are ya winning son?”

This is why you lock the door when you go for a bathroom break. Your dogs just can’t resist peering in there like they have a right to know what you’re doing.

12. Never seen this yoga pose before.

When you’ve got an itch in a hard-to-reach place, it’s best to employ the Jason Mraz strategy. This involves bending over backwards so you can try and see it clearer.

13. Okay, get in.

Reddit - u/sejr0084 Source: Reddit - u/sejr0084

This image was posted to r/blursed images, a sort of portmanteau of the words “blessed” and “cursed”. It ain’t hard to see why. With those glowing eyes and that hole with the digging equipment, you’d be forgiven for thinking he just dug your grave.

14. They had us in the first half, not gonna lie.

Seeing your pet foaming at the mouth is enough to make any pet owner scream and panic. This dog must think he’s real funny sticking that piece of paper in his mouth like that. You almost gave us a heart attack there, buddy.

15. “Don’t you scare me like that!”

A gruesome sight on the kitchen floor. I’d panic too if I saw my cat all bloody on the floor like this. Thank goodness this is just paprika.

16. I’m just as confused as you.

Reddit - u/BaByJeZuZ012 Source: Reddit - u/BaByJeZuZ012

Turns out this groomer is missing most of his right arm. He isn’t punching clean through the dog’s head, though it does look like it.

17. The Borkening

Reddit - u/redandwhiteroses Source: Reddit - u/redandwhiteroses

Some pets seem to be doing this on purpose. Why else would this dog be staring at the security camera in the dead of night? At least it made for a good Reddit post.

18. Let me just see where I put my….oh.

Reddit - r/animalsbeingderps Source: Reddit - r/animalsbeingderps

When pets decide to take naps in the most random places, you might end up with a cat inside a toolbox. This person got a dog inside a crate, and honestly I might have a mini-heart attack too. Imagine pulling out a crate to grab some tools or a bear, and there’s a doggo inside.

19. That’s a killer smile if I’ve ever seen one.

Reddit - r/Photoshopbattles Source: Reddit - r/Photoshopbattles

It’s said that you should never smile at some animals, because the concept of smiling as a friendly gesture is lost on them. Smiling involves bearing your teeth, and plenty of animals take that as a threat. Looking at this example…yeah I can see why.

20. Can you not?

Reddit - u/kentamari Source: Reddit - u/kentamari

There’s being creepy, and then there’s this. I half expect this dog to send me photos that look like they were taken outside the window while I’m in bed.

I hope this list didn’t give you too many nightmares. We all need a good scare to make us uneasy, don’t we? Can’t be having too much relaxation now.

How about you make some more people uneasy by sharing this article with them?
