20 photos proving a beard is all a man needs for a wonderful transformation

Did you know that early humans grew beards not just for warmth but to appear more intimidating but extending their jawlines? Itā€™s not surprising since the facial hair is still used by many to express their masculinity.

In fact, shaving off oneā€™s beard didnā€™t become a norm for some men (at least in the Western world) until Alexander the Great made his soldiers shave their beards (he thought it was too easy for the enemy to grab onto).

The history of beards is fascinating stuff!

Now, beards hold a cultural cache in some places and within some communities, but mostly for the same reason that they are thought to make some men look, well, ā€œmanlier.ā€

Beards seem more popular than ever now, but itā€™s also been a way to objectify men. So while we show you 20 amazing beard transformations, weā€™re going to try hard not to do that.

1. Color contrasts

While lighting no doubt plays a role, men learn something that women have long known about hair ā€“ it can look a totally different color the more it grows out.

Maxime Desrosiers is an adventuring enthusiast and definitely looks the part ā€“ that beard looks very much at home in all of his ski trip photos.

2. Boys to men

Sometimes a beard can add years to a face, something most women are trying NOT to do.

But for men, it has the psychological effect (on other people) of making them seem more mature. And theyā€™re lucky that they can change up their looks so easily!

3. Masters of grooming

Ok, so 14 years passed between these two photos, so thatā€™s adding some of the age to this ā€œafterā€ look.

But it also shows that beards can be a great way of expressing oneā€™s style simply by the way itā€™s groomed.

Greg Berzinsky is a big beard ā€œinfluencer,ā€ so we expect him to always be using his hair to his advantage.

For lots of guys, their chin is the easiest place to grow hair!

While these photos were taken 8 years apart, they look more like a world apart.

That is one very well-kept beard ā€“ and men also have the advantage of always looking distinguished when they go grey.

5. Stubble vs. beards

Thereā€™s an endless debate about whether the photo on the left shows a ā€œbeardā€ or simply stubble.

It really doesnā€™t matter except to show that when a beard really grows out it can continue to transform a face (not to mention show more grey).

Luckily, both look great on this guy.

6. A toss-up

Just like the endless debates about women with short hair vs. long hair, people will always argue about whether some guys look better with a beard or not.

At the end of the day, itā€™s whatever makes you confident thatā€™s best.

It takes a lot of work to care for a beard like this, especially in a time when germs spread so easily.

Now guys with beards understand a bit about what women go through with all of the various products required to keep their look neat AND clean.
