20 things that are way bigger than you realized
Some things in this world defy description, being way larger than you thought they were. These oversize items, animals, and people can leave us with a sense of amazement and wonder as we try to take in their large size. Here are some items that are way bigger than you ever expected.
1. Growing them big
Babies are so small, cute, and cuddly. This big baby, though, might make you rethink the small part. Size doesn’t matter in this case as the baby’s big size means that there is more to cuddle.
2. Fat cat
Most people are used to their cats being small, even if they have a big attitude. There are some cats, such as this one, that defy the norms. Pretty sure the attitude is probably still there.
3. Mutant bug
IS this mosquito a mutant? No, it is just the Holorusia Mikado mosquito. With a leg span of over 10 inches, this big boy is sure to leave a mark if it bites you.
4. Screw this
How do you secure the largest shelves in the world’s biggest warehouses? Why you use the world’s biggest screw. Now, to find a screwdriver big enough to turn it.
5. That’s one big wombat
I guess wombats can get big, really big. Take Patrick for instance, at 29 years old, he is the world’s biggest wombat.
6. Bigger than you thought
We all know that whales are big, but did anyone have any idea that they were this big? While they look big in close-up photos, you can’t really appreciate their size until placed beside an actual boatload of people.
7. Stinging giants
While most people think of jellyfish as small stinging terrors, some can grow to a large size. Take the lion’s mane jellyfish, for instance. This species of jellyfish easily grows to be bigger than an adult human.
8. That’s one big bird
Luckily, for this kid, this large bird is so lovable. A hyacinth macaw, this bird is a member of the world’s largest parrot species.
9. Look at the size of those pincers
Can you imagine coming across this monstrosity in the wild? Luckily, they are confined to the southwest Pacific and Indian oceans. They can grow up to 40-inches in diameter and can weigh up to 10 pounds.
10. Ring lord
This is the actual ring prop that they used to shoot all of those close-up shots of the One Ring in the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy. While able to change size to fit the finger of the wearer in the books, this ring, unfortunately, does not have that ability.
11. Large floof
Some breeds of dogs can grow to a massive size. Take this dog, for instance, he is a Newfoundland, also called “Newfies.” The breed originated in Newfoundland, which is off the coast of Canada.
12. Sky-high cactus
Just like other things, cactus can also grow to great heights. The Mexican giant cactus for instance, which this cactus is, can grow up to 60 feet in height and can live for hundreds of years.
13. Big squid
Giant squids are rumored to grow up to 59 feet in length. This one, a mere baby in comparison to its larger brethren, was found washed up on a beach already dead. It is still twice the length of the man in the photo.
14. Heads above
The Rock, also known as Dwayne Johnson or The People’s Champion, is 6’5”. In comparison, Sun Ming Ming, the tallest basketball player in China, is 7’9”. Who knew people grew that big in China, or anywhere for that matter?
15. Nope!
The men in this photo sure are brave. They’ve captured a giant anaconda. The most shocking part of this photo is that it took 9 grown men to carry it.
16. Knock, knock
Can you imagine having to open those doors? Chances are, they are counterbalanced to make them easier to open.
17. Wolf’s head
Wolves can grow pretty big, as this picture attests, but how big can they really get? Well, an average wolf can grow over five feet in length and stand almost three feet at the shoulder. The bigger question is how did they get this wolf in the car?
18. Going batty
Imagine coming across this at night. A giant golden-crowned flying fox, this big guy is one of the world’s largest species of bat and can grow to almost six feet in length. That’s the size of a human adult male.
19. Lake Placid flashbacks
This big saltwater crocodile is reminiscent of the big boy fed by Betty White in the 1999 horror film, Lake Placid. Don’t know quite how one would react when coming across this specimen. More than likely an underwear change would be in order.
20. Bear claw
Bears can get pretty big, depending on where you live. Kodiak bears, the largest bears in the world can grow to 10 feet tall when standing on their hind legs. They also weigh up to 1,500 pounds, which would make an attack by these claws deadly.
