20 products you’ll be surprised to know you’re using incorrectly

1. One at a time

For some reason, people’s minds are blown when they find out there’s a “right” way to dispense a Tic Tac.

And while we feel silly we missed it, we can’t ever recall a time when we planned to eat just one.

2. Slow your roll

Wait, what?

We’ve been using foil and plastic wrap for decades without ever noticing this!

It turns out there is an easy way to keep your roll from sliding out of the box when you go to tear off a piece of wrap.

3. Transformers

You don’t need an extra plate when you get Chinese take-out.

It turns out the boxes are folded the way they are because they double as a plate!

4. Keep it in place

We normally skip the straw if we’re drinking out of a can since it tends to bubble up out of the spout and sometimes fall right out.

But apparently we could have avoided years of frustration by just using the can the right way – sticking the straw into the hole in the tab.

5. Get a grip

Most of us have been using bobby pins incorrectly our entire lives.

It turns out that you’re supposed to put the wavy side facing down so it can grip your hair properly.

This explains so much!

6. Carb counter

Apparently, there’s an appropriate serving size for spaghetti that isn’t “all of it.”

Those spoons we use for our noodles? The hole in the center measures out one serving size.

Oops!

7. Plunged out of darkness

Apparently, the plungers most of us have been using for toilets (the kind on the left) are meant to be used for sinks.

A real toilet plunger looks like the one on the right.

8. That’s bananas

Sorry, you’ve been using bananas wrong your whole life!

Seriously though, have you ever had trouble opening one from the top? That’s because pinching from the bottom is the best way to get off the peel.

9. Don’t clog the blender

Do you always have to stop and shake things up when your blender blades get stuck?

That’s probably because you’re making one of two mistakes: you should be pouring liquid in first and you should always chop ingredients up instead of putting them in whole.

10. Upside down is the right side up

If you’re a fan of the non-sugary natural type of peanut butter (or you’d like to be but think the oily texture is gross), chances are you’re not storing it the best way.

If you put it in the fridge and turn it upside down, the oil will be at the bottom when you open the lid and you’ll get all the good stuff without having to mix it up.

11. Ties that bind

Extension cords easily come apart if you’re not careful.

That’s why, while it’s not using them wrong to simply attach them together, it’s certainly smarter to tie them in a loop first to prevent a power outage.

12. Panhandling

Well, now you know that the hole in your pot or pan handle serves more than one purpose.

Sure, you can use it to hang the pan more easily on a rack, but it’s also a place to put your spoon while you cook!

13. Waste not, want not

Hate having to fill up a bunch of tiny condiment containers to fulfill your ketchup needs?

Well, if you look closely, you’ll notice that those are folded up on the sides and can be easily flattened to form a little plate that holds a lot more dip!

14. Pea-sized is perfect

Most people put WAY too much toothpaste on their toothbrushes.

Just because toothpaste commercials show a big wad of product on the brush (after all, they want you to run out so you can buy more) you should only be using a pea-sized amount.

More won’t do you any good.

15. Handle with care

Those flaps on the side of juice boxes? A parent’s dream!

No longer do you have to hold the juice box up to your tot’s mouth if they have the dexterity to grab those little handles!

It also keeps them from squeezing the box and shooting juice everywhere.

16. Grateful for the knowledge

We’re still going to do it our own way, but apparently it’s best to grate cheese into a 4-sided grater on its side so the cheese collects inside before you dump it into a bowl.

Of course, we kind of like it when it goes flying out of the bowl because that means we can eat those pieces.

17. Gimmie some sugar

Those long sugar packets?

They work a heck of a lot better when you tear them in half rather than opening them at one end.

And it’s a sure way to get all the sweetness out.

18. A clean pour

We just got used to spilling things that come in containers like this.

Suddenly we feel like we’ve been living our whole lives upside down!

19. That’s why they hurt

Earbuds can be pretty uncomfortable. But that’s because most of us wear them incorrectly.

Try turning them the other way around and wrapping the cord around your ear.

20. There’s a right way and a wrong way

Sorry, it’s not a debate.

Having your toilet paper hang with the roll facing down not only forces you to touch more paper with your dirty hands, but more of it touches the wall as well before you use it.

You can still do what you want, but just know that being sanitary is important here.
