20 photos that prove these ‘tough’ dogs are actually scaredy-cats
When you think of some of the most common traits that dogs tend to be known for, words like bravery and loyalty often come to mind. To be sure, many dogs do, in fact, possess many such traits under most circumstances. However, there are a few certain things in almost every dog’s life that will turn them into a big ol’ scaredy-cat.
The funniest part about it is that most of these fears tend to be totally irrational and unexplainable. From being petrified by the photographed gaze of certain A-list celebrities to being terrified of touching hardwood floors, you’d be surprised at what brings out the inner coward in some dogs.
Here are 20 of the most hilarious photos on the internet of sweet-but-silly, scared-dogs.
1. Some dogs hate A.I.
It could just be that dogs are a lot smarter than us humans when it comes to knowing what to fear. This dog seems to have a very healthy fear of his human’s Roomba. Sure, it sucks up stuff off the floor, but what if it decides to suck your soul, too???
2. They’re not so hot about airplanes, either
This giant doggo doesn’t look like he’s too thrilled to be flying thousands of feet up in the air. We can only hope his handlers were able to strap him in for the flight, or they might have a loose moose on their hands.
3. They might not like your stuffed animals
This adorable pup isn’t really feeling the taxidermied boar’s head mounted to his human’s wall, and we don’t really blame him. If he can do this to a boar, how does he know he’s not next. And, how does he know that boar isn’t going to come to life and eat him one day? Hey, at least it’s mounted on the outside of the house.
4. They’re closing in on me…
It’s pretty hilarious how such large dogs can be afraid of something so tiny as a little kitten. To be fair, though, it looks like these kitties have formed a pride, and they’re closing in on this old hound pretty fast. That’s a lot of sharp kitty claws to face if he ever comes down.
5. Elephants aren’t the only ones scared of mice
It’s really hard to tell who is more scared in this picture. Clearly, the unsuspecting Border Collie was shocked, but think about how the mouse felt. Just wandering through the field, nose to the ground when out of nowhere he stumbles into a giant dog! We think it’s safe to say that the experience got the better of both of them that day.
6. The thunder was frightening
It’s definitely understandable why dogs find thunder to be so scary. The loud, booming noise rumbling through the sky scares a lot of humans too, after all. What we can’t understand, though, is why this little guy thought he would be kept safe from the thunder by hiding out in the dishwasher!?
7. It’s her party and she’ll cry if she wants to
Even their own birthday celebration can freak some dogs out. Or, at least it did this sweet girl. She clearly has no idea why she is being forced to wear a ridiculous hat on her head or why her human is taking photos. She’s probably worried she’ll end up in a dog-shaming calender.
8. Dogs are easily traumatized by vacuum cleaners
The loud, roaring noise of a vacuum cleaner is enough to scare both dogs and cats, and some kids, too. When this happens, the best thing to do is just hug it out with them until the worst has passed. They won’t get used to it, but you’ll love the extra sweet cuddles they give.
9. Fallen leaves are straight from hell
While the little girl in this photo looks like she’s having a blast, the dog looks like he’s about to have an aneurysm. We have no idea what could make the fallen leaves seem so scary, except that maybe he is so short he worries if he enters the leaf-pile forest he’ll never be found again.
10. Dogs can also be terrified of tech
You don’t always need a puppy gate to corral your dogs. If you happen to know some of their deepest fears, you can use that knowledge to your advantage to keep them away from a certain area. This dog’s owner, for instance, knows her pup has a paralyzing fear of electronics. Rather than an annoying baby-gate, he just puts a couple of electronics in her way and worries no more.
11. We can all agree that shark week can be pretty horrifying
This adorable pup decided to watch shark week with his owner. That’s when his owner realized that his dog isn’t a fan of sharks and should probably never be taken for a swim in the ocean.
12. Some dogs are scared to transition from one room to another
This outrageous dog doesn’t like the transition from the landing at the top of the stairs to his humans’ bedroom. Thankfully, though, he’s a lot smarter than he looks. This overgrown pup has found a way to “face” his fears…by slooowly backing into them.
13. Apparently, zucchinis can be quite scary
Let’s just face it; Corgis are quirky. We have no idea what makes a large garden zucchini so scary to these two scared-dogs, but we do know that the comical expression on their faces makes this photo so, SO worth it.
14. Backfires make them jump
Dogs can do some pretty stupid things when they hear a car backfire, especially if it’s unexpected. According to this little dude’s owner, the dog was taking an afternoon snooze outside when a car randomly backfired. The loud noise scared his dog so much that he jumped out of his sleep and fell straight into the pool.
15. Terrifying mice
Even if you’re an enormous 200+ pound St. Bernard, it doesn’t mean ish when it comes to mice. The soft, big-eared, cute little things are apparently the stuff of doggy nightmares. So, be prepared to have a colossal-sized lap dog if you see a mouse in the house.
16. Ducks are, apparently, also creepy
With the way that duck is smirking and the sardonic shimmer in his eye, we might just have to agree with the dogs, here. Did the ducky just push the pup in the pool? We aren’t sure, but the dog’s look is one of sheer terror.
17. Some dogs find hardwood floors freaky
According to the owner of this flexible pooch, his dog isn’t afraid to approach the hardwood floors from any other entry point in the house, of which there are several. For some reason, though, the transition from this particular room with the carpet onto the hardwood floor is just too scary to take it full throttle. At least he still faces his fears and accomplishes his goals, though.
18. Julia Roberts can also be equally horrifying
This has to be one of the funniest things we have ever seen a dog do. We don’t know what it is about Julia Roberts that puts the fear into this dog, but it’s so intense that he can’t even turn his back on her terrifying image. Instead, he keeps eye contact as he slowly backs away while the ‘Imperial March’ song from Star Wars rolls in the background.
19. “Outside” can be a scary place, for sure
When you’re as small as this sweet little fella here, it’s understandable why the outside world might seem scary. It’s massive, bright, and loud. Not to mention with a face and adorable eyes like his, everyone will be clamoring to get their hands on you.
20. Lawnmowers can make them go stealth
If your dog happens to be a scaredy-cat, you always want to keep a close eye on them, even if they’re just in the yard. This picture was taken by a Redditor who was dog-sitting and decided to mow the lawn. That’s when she learned that this beautiful girl has a healthy fear of the lawnmower. We gotta say, the adorable photo-op is almost worth giving her a fright.
