20 people who dealt with their boredom in the weirdest ways

Many of us have been forced to get creative with unexpected free time these last few months while under quarantine – and we’ve realized that odd things amuse us.

When we get bored for long periods of time – whether at home or at work – our brains can convince us some pretty random stuff, from demented redecorating to bizarre art projects.

Here are 20 people whose boredom took them to some extra-strange places:

1. Lace it up

Do you know where lace doesn’t belong? Anywhere near the toilet.

When you go to redecorate your bathroom, try using a more washable fabric – unless you’re so bored you just want to sew some new lacy ruffles every few weeks.

That’s a lot of lace from r/DiWHY

2. How many calories are in North America?

This seems like a real waste of chips.

Then again, there’s no reason you can’t eat the world one piece at a time.

We’re not sure what possesses a person to undertake such a project, but it makes for a funny photo!

3. Clip art

Even those of us who have to go into work get bored.

This binder clip sculpture is a testament to why we might consider shortening the workday to increase actual productivity.

4. Strawberry skincare

Wow, that’s next level.

De-seeding a strawberry like this not only requires top-tier boredom but some serious patience as well.

5. A waste of White-Out

Apparently, this little art project had the blessing of this worker’s boss – AND she’s the one who took the photo.

Is there really nothing better to do in this office?

6. Off with their heads!

It takes a unique mind to say “hey, I’m bored, I’m going to set up a gummy bear execution.”

7. Because why not?

Well, there are probably health code-related reasons not to do this, but this is what a slow night at Jamba Juice looks like.

We’ll be less surprised when the next franchise closes down.

8. Sweet dedication

Well, we have to admit – we approve.

We can’t imagine finding the time to do this, but we’re just glad someone did it.

Now if we could just see how they went about eating it!

Sweet satisfaction (and far too much free time)

9. Bathroom break

The bathroom is one of the few places you can take a break without people asking too many questions.

You’d just better hope your boss doesn’t walk into the stall after you do this.

Someone had too much time on their hands…

10. Penny for your thoughts

Who even has this many pennies lying around anymore?

We can only hope the artist gave their hands a good wash after creating this boredom-induced masterpiece.

I, too, am bored at work

11. Raspberry parade

Wow. We’re not sure if this is better or worse than the strawberry.

We do know that this is a great way to make a snack last longer though.

12. Just add glitter

Glitter is the official boredom device of crafters everywhere.

Is this a good idea? No.

Is it going to look amazing? Well, also no.

13. Trapped in amber

Even now that salons are open, many still aren’t doing manicures.

That leaves people with a morbid sense of style to their own devices.

14. What a bum

This is probably one of the more deranged craft projects we’ve seen.

We don’t even want to ask about the paint.

15. Strange genius

A weird waste of time? Probably.

But do we totally want one? Absolutely!

16. Butt-erfly

What is it with people and their strange toilet decor?!

Who wants to sit on this?

17. Franken-orange

How do people come up with these ideas?

We’re afraid we’re never going to be able to look at an orange the same way again after seeing this.

18. Why?!

Couldn’t this person have just ridden the one scooter to alleviate their boredom?

Why make it more dangerous?

19. Boredom buddy

Cats can get bored, but not as easily as humans.

This one is bearing the brunt of its owner’s aimlessness.

20. Pringle ring

We were unaware that potato chip art was a thing until now.

But, apparently, when people get bored and head for the chips, it’s not always for a snack.
