You don’t have to be a parent to feel heartbroken when you hear stories of children being abused or abandoned.

Even when you try to understand what triggered the parent to leave the child behind, you know there is absolutely no reason to let your troubles be the primary cause of someone’s suffering.

22-year-old Jimmy Amisial was on his way to a celebration with his friends when he saw something that startled him.

A small group of people was gathered around something, and when he approached to see what the commotion was about, he couldn’t believe his eyes.

It was a sight that he didn’t expect to see, and it turned his entire life around.

A baby was crying inside a trash dumpster, and the people around didn’t seem to want to do anything to help.

Jimmy was shocked, but he immediately knew what to do.

Instead of walking ahead to make his way to the event, he decided to take the baby. He told KXAN:

“I saw there were about 15 to 20 people staring at the baby on the pile of trash. He had no clothes on. He was crying. I could hear the pain in his voice. I couldn’t think of anything but to save him.”

Apparently, the villagers thought the baby was cursed or came from somewhere evil.

There were already fire ants crawling all over the poor baby, who wasn’t wearing any clothes.

Without hesitation, Jimmy picked the baby up. He recalled how the baby stopped crying immediately after being carried.

Jimmy’s mother was shocked at seeing her son with a baby in his arms.

After he explained what happened, they decided to keep the baby overnight.

Jimmy’s mom helped clean the baby up, and they also applied some lotion to alleviate the pain from the ant bites.

They also remembered to file a police report detailing the incident.

The next day, a judge visited their house and asked if Jimmy wanted interim custody of the child.

Jimmy decided against agreeing on the spot and slept on it.

His mother, however, reminded him that things always happen for a reason.

He then remembered his desire to be part of something great and realized this was it – this was the moment he had been waiting for.

When Jimmy had to return to Texas after Christmas break, they continued working on the process of being granted custody of the baby.

It was challenging, and he knew it would require approximately $40,000 for the adoption.

Determined, Jimmy took a year off from school to focus on the procedure and worked as a part-time landscaper and delivery assistant.

He relayed the situation online, and immediately, there was an outpouring of financial help.

From an initial target of $60,000, Jimmy received $79,000.

He would spend the targeted amount on the child’s education and donate the rest to Haitian orphans.

The child, whom he named Emilio Angel Jeremih, is now officially Jimmy’s son.

Emilio thrives in school, is a joy at home, and has a great personality.

The whirlwind of events and what came of it all inspired Jimmy to carry out his mission to start a non-profit organization geared at helping orphans and low-income families in Haiti.
