250 Amish men demonstrate seriously impressive teamwork while moving a barn with bare hands
It seems like a page taken from a fiction playbook.
With their non-conventional clothing to how their community thrives in the 21st century, the Amish people certainly have intriguing yet commendable traits.
As an example, these Amish lads effortlessly lifted a massive barn and moved it. These collective efforts lead to a resounding result.
250 Men in Action
Covered by Mount Vernon news, the impressive feat took place the early morning of March 9th last year. Around 9 am when a group of Amish men gathered to move the barn from one end of the farm to another. A few moments later, they started to spread around the barn and lifted it. Right after that, these men started to pace towards the other end of the farm.
Before they carefully laid the barn down, they had to pivot it a bit.
It only took a short while to get this task done!
Some adult Amish women and children were present in the area watching the moving take place. In as short as five minutes, they managed to move this massive barn efficiently.
But who are Amish people, anyway?
The Amish Church started in Switzerland and stemmed from a group of Alsatian Mennonite Anabaptists and The Swiss German Anabaptists in 1693. Jakob Amman led the group and those who followed him eventually became Amish. In the latter part of the 19th century, the Old Order Amish and the Amish became the two orders of the church. The difference is that the former is a lot more traditional than the latter.
So, how did they reach the US?
Sometime early 18th century, many of the Amish and Mennonites immigrated to PA for different reasons. They began migrating to Pennsylvania particularly for its religious toleration. This was also part of a larger migration from the Palatinate. At present, many of the Amish people still speak Pennsylvania German or what is commonly referred to as the Pennsylvania Dutch. The Amish group also speak other dialects. And up to this date, they continue a simple way of living and are not keen on adapting modern technology.
Another key characteristic of the Amish people, which was evident in the pictures and videos, is how to simply they dress up every day. According to Lancasterpa , these clothes are an expression of their faith and should not be mistaken as costumes. The clothing also speaks volumes of humility, which is an important facet of their being.
Barn-raising as part of Amish Culture
Aside from moving barns, raising barns is an important community endeavor for them. Barn-raising is often completed in one day. They start during the daybreak and by afternoon, the roofing installation usually takes place. While the men are at work, the women prepare the meals and the kids play or wait for any errands. As seen in this impressive video, each member of the Amish community has a role to fulfill.
There’s a lot to learn about and from the Amish people
In this day and age where technology is often at the forefront of people’s lives, the Amish prove that teamwork and simple living still have their advantages. And that no matter the load is, a unified action can carry it with ease.
