Hummingbirds are one of the most unique, and popular birds in the world. Hummingbirds earned the nickname “insect bird” for the speed of their wings, and for their excellent hovering abilities.

There are many facts about their species that makes them extra special, here are some of them:

1. Hummingbirds are the only birds that can fly backward.

2.On average, hummingbirds weigh less than a nickel.

3.Their legs are only there for perching, so they’re unable to hop or walk.

4.Hummingbirds can consume up to double their body weight in nectar each day.

5.There are over 330 species in North and South America.

6.They are the smallest birds that migrate, but unlike most other birds, hummingbirds are lone rangers who migrate up to 500 miles alone at a time.

It’s not often you see hummingbirds hanging out in flocks of thirty, but that’s exactly what happens in Scott’s video

The video was posted by wildwingsla YouTube channel, where people were instantly enthralled by the massive group of hummingbirds. The video also explains that they were only friends for a short time before things went south.

“You’d never know they will be harassing each other in five minutes’ time…” Reads part of the YouTube caption.

You’ll likely never see so many hummingbirds hovering at once, and what a beautiful sight it is

All of the hummingbirds take turns drinking out the square-shaped fountain, and boy are they loving it! Too bad they could only get along for a bit, no wonder this is such a rare sight to see.

For 48 seconds, the hummingbirds take turns drinking from the birdbath while they all hum together. You may be surprised by how fierce hummingbirds actually are.

Why is it so rare to see this many hummingbirds in harmony like this? The answer might shock you

Hummingbirds aren’t known as the friendliest birds around, in fact, when you see them “playing” with each other it’s not always the case. They may also be fighting to the death over territory,

Another reason they fly around each other like this has to do with mating. That’s right when the mating season starts, the male hummingbirds show off their aerial skills in an extraordinary fashion. Sometimes they even do death-defying stunts, by hurling themselves toward the ground only to recover themselves just before they crash. Morebirds.com explains why:

“These maneuvers, called dive bombs, are just part of the stunning aerial dance the male will do to win over a potential mate. If impressed with his acrobatic strength and skill, the female will then join the male in a flight pattern of up and downs, a sign the couple will soon mate.”

Hummingbirds are gorgeous and fascinating birds, especially when we catch them in huge flocks like this video.
