Veterinarians share their 4 biggest pet peeves when it comes to animal parents

We all love our four legged furry friends. That means all the extra TLC they need, even going so far as to being spoiled senseless. That includes visits to the vet. Something our pets don’t appreciate but don’t worry, the vet probably doesn’t want to see you or them either.

Vets are professionals, spending years learning their craft, and even more years caring for many pets. Sadly, most pet parents don’t really know what they’re doing and that can make a vet feel frustrated.

So take a peek into some of a vet’s peeves. Take this as a lesson into what not to do when bringing your pet to the clinic!

1. Not being ready for a pet.

It’s not easy bringing in a new member of the family. The money out because you’re excited might be but the responsibilities tend to overwhelm first time owners. You will have to feed them, water them, pet them, and walk them.

Then you have to realize that each pet has different needs. Emotionally, physically, and mentally.

People don’t really research on nutrition and hygiene plus the type of space a pet needs to be happy. Exercise is another necessity pets need, and most owners take this for granted.

Then you will need to learn how to read them. Where and how they like to be petted, the treats they love, and how they are feeling.

If you aren’t ready to have a pet, you’ll be taking the poor animal to the vet, or always cleaning up after them.

2. Using the internet to diagnose.

The internet is the easiest way to get any information we need. But not all of those sites are reliable or credible. Don’t even tell your vet where you got your info as to your pet’s diagnosis.

Pay attention instead to your pet. Note down everything you observe and if there is a reason to be concerned, take them to the vet immediately. 24 hour veterinary services are available so find the nearest one and forget about the internet.

3. DON’T WAIT!

If your dog or cat is throwing up many times in one day, or shows severe diarrhea or constipation, then hurry up and take them to the vet. Waiting can make things worse, or even fatal.

Vets will appreciate you arriving and leaving with a happy animal over an issue that can be treated. That’s way better than bringing in a pet who’s knocking on death’s door.

4. You refuse to listen.

Put down your phone. Doesn’t matter if you’re playing a game or chatting with your bff about the latest movie and that new coffee shop. When you are in the exam room, listen. Explain the problem, and let the vet do their thing.

The vet is more than willing to explain your pet’s diagnosis and even answer your questions afterwards. Don’t waste each other’s time. And besides, it’s downright disrespectful.

Your pet will thank you later!
