4-year-old charms audience as she dances to Beyoncé’s “Halo”

Belle Arauz is just 4 years old, but she’s already got the flexibility and coordination of a great dancer.

While she’s showcased her skills in regional dance competitions in the past, a video from early October 2019 from the JUMP Ft. Lauderdale 2019/2020 competition has already been viewed over a quarter of a million times on YouTube.

Belle danced in the Lyrical Solo category. While her choreography was arranged by Jennifer Travieso of Florida’s Spotlight Dance Academy, the skills are all hers.

The little girl shows off her flexibility and control within the first few chords of a cover of Beyoncé’s 2014 hit “Halo.”

In a turquoise bedazzled leotard and matching headband, she’s the picture of innocence, although some argue that dance competition costumes could be a bit more conservative and still show off a child’s skills.

“It is important for dancers to be able to see their bodies, to check their turn out and lines while taking class in front of unforgiving mirrors. Dance class is one thing but in front of an audience? I vote no,” said once life-long dancer and now dance mom in a Huff Post editorial.

If her Instagram account – managed by her mom, of course – is anything to go by, Belle has been dancing for at least a year or two and displays the ability to contort her body in ways that seem nearly impossible.

She shows off those same skills on stage as well, with holds, splits, and backbends. While we don’t know the details of her training, it’s clear that she spends many hours a week perfecting her art.

While to the untrained eye it looks far more like gymnastics than dance, these basic skills are the ones that will lead to more sophisticated dance motions later in their training.

Even now, though, it’s clear that Belle can move along to the music better than most. She’s not simply going through the motions, but feeling the music to some extent.

Belle has also been crowned the Miss Mini Primetime Regional Champ of 2019, and it shows.

While she dances both with a team and solo, she could have quite a career ahead of her should she continue to pursue the sport.

Belle placed 4th out of 14 dancers in the competition and, according to Spotlight Dance Academy’s Instagram account, she earned “high gold” for her performance. (Competitions generally give out Platinum, Elite High Gold, High Gold, Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards in addition to rankings.)

In a post of Belle and a fellow dancer, the Academy said this was their first competition of the year, and “most importantly our girls were so proud of themselves, they enjoyed every moment, and they are ready for what’s ahead this season.”

While the tiny dancer just entered voluntary pre-kindergarten this year, she’s been attending dance school for quite some time.

But despite the glitzy costumes and impressive dance abilities, at the heart of it all is a little girl who loves to dance.
