5 simple ways to embrace alone-time
Some people are homebodies and love being alone. However, not all people are like that. Some people find it really difficult to be alone, whether that is because they are used to being in a relationship or they have past traumas that make them fear abandonment. Or, maybe they don’t relate to either of those things and they simply just can’t get used to the idea of being alone.
Whatever it is, there is no shame. But being alone is a wonderful thing and fortunately, there are some easy steps you can take that will help ease you into much deserved alone time. Once you get used to it, you will probably want to be alone all the time!
1. Amp up your activity levels
Even if you already consider yourself to be an active person, become even more active than you currently are. And if you don’t consistently work out, now is a great time to start! Exercise is a great way to meet new people and open up your social circle.
Additionally, working out will give you confidence, which will ultimately make you feel more comfortable on your own. There are different activities too — yoga if you want to calm your mind, weight lifting if you want to feel strong, running if you have a lot of energy to get out. You name it, there is something for everyone!
2. Volunteer
Volunteering is another great way to meet new people, not to mention like-minded people. Not only will you connect with others, but you will also be doing something amazing for whatever organization you choose.
3. Keep track of the time you spend on your device
Spending too much time on your phone or computer can never be great for your mental health. It can end up isolating you even more and even worse, you can end up comparing yourself to what other people are doing. Focus on yourself and get out in the real world and you are bound to feel better.
4. Meet someone new
There are so many ways to meet someone new and it is probably a great idea to get someone new into the circle, someone with fresh perspectives. You can try heading out to a bar, heading to a new restaurant, checking out a new gym or even try online apps (of course, manage it so that this isn’t taking up all of your time to abide by rule number 3).
5. Spend time alone
Being by yourself is a crucial part of life and luckily, there are so many different ways you can do it. Go on a hike, go to the gym, take yourself out to lunch, head to a cafe and read a book… You can even go big and take yourself to a Broadway show, a movie, or go on a little shopping trip.
