He was a tiny boy with the face of an angel and a big voice. He fearlessly made his debut, appearing alongside his brothers and sisters in song and dance. The eighth child in his family, he joined his sibling in performing as the Jackson 5.

The family group was quick to show the world what they were made of, and elicited cheers of delight from crowds near and far.

No sooner were they making records and appearing on the radio. Jackson persevered from a young age with his powerful vocals and was able to launch a successful solo career by 1971 with Motown Records. It was his fifth album, recorded with Epic Records (who he’d remain with until his death in 2009), Off the Wall, that skyrocketed him into stardom.

Not only did Jackson possess powerful vocals, but he also had a notable style that he embodied with grace and flare.

He stunned crowds with his flashy get-up – from his sequined black fedora right down to his single white glove.

He wanted to sing but he also had impeccable dance moves to share with the world. Jackson recreated the entertainment scene with a single dance move, the moonwalk, which lives on in the hearts of many. He was poised to tell a story with his music and his passion overflowed from within him.

He went on to win many Grammy Awards and lives on as one of the best selling music artists of all time.

One of his most famous songs, “Beat It” was recorded on his sixth album, Thriller, in 1982. Both him and his producer, Quincy Jones, wanted to create a song that had a rocking feel to it, thus the song was born.

The song enjoyed massive success and entertained the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks. His accompanying music video propelled him into the international pop icon that we know him as today.
