5-year-old girl lands first place with a poised and graceful dance performance

If you have children, you know they go through a lot of different stages of life. For 5-year-old girls, most of them are all about playing with dolls, giggling with friends, and painting their nails like mom. For some, this is about the age when they begin to show interest in a specific activity such as dance.

But at that age, their growing bodies are still uncoordinated and not very strong. Well, one little girl is showing the world that’s not the case for everyone. She might only be five, but she dances like a professional with decades of experience.

When describing girls at this age, two words are seldom heard — “poised” and “graceful.” But those perfectly describe one young lady who performed at the Rainbow National Dance Competition.

Lyrical dance

Dance instructors teach girls an assortment of different styles. Among these are tap, jazz, and ballet. Once students start competing, teachers usually have them do a fun yet somewhat easy piece. Often, lyrical dance is saved for girls who are a little bit older. After all, this style requires a lot of control, flexibility, and grace — skills most 5-year-olds haven’t quite yet mastered.

There’s always an exception

In this case, the exception is a beautiful little girl named Jessica Sutton. Not only is she flexible, strong, and graceful, but she can also dance with perfect rhythm. This 5-year-old had the chance to showcase her uncanny abilities during a performance. Her choice of dance…lyrical with contemporary moves.

Similar yet different

Most people think lyrical and contemporary dance is the same, and while they share similarities, they’re also unique. Lyrical is a blend of jazz and ballet. With this, the movements are fluid and smooth to express the dancer’s emotions. In comparison, contemporary is modern, jazz, ballet, and lyrical styles combined. Often, dancers in this category perform barefoot and close to the floor.

They immediately knew she was special

When Jessica took the stage at a recent competition, both the judges and the audience sensed something different about her. There she was, just a small, 5-year-old who looked like a million bucks. But beyond her impeccable hair, makeup, and costume, her body posture spoke volumes as to what people could expect to see in her dance routine.

Jessica didn’t disappoint

She captivated the audience within the first 20 seconds. With beautiful music, she started off with a leg tilt. That means she completed a standing split. For most of us, we can’t even imagine trying something like that. But for this 5-year-old, she made it look easy. And the confidence on her face was undeniable.

People were mesmerized

As Jessica continued, the auditorium remained completely silent with the exception of the song being played for her dance. When watching the video, it’s almost as though everyone was holding their breath, anticipating her next move. And she had a lot of them, all performed flawlessly.

Amazing technical abilities

The level of technical skill that Jessica possesses is not something you’d ever expect to see in a 5-year-old. Throughout her routine, she keeps her toes properly pointed, her chin held high, and her hands beautifully extended. She’s so spectacular, this is the kind of performance that people would gladly pay good money to see.
