5th grade boys have the audience in hysterics as they perform a dance mashup at a talent show

Fifth grade is tough! And it’s not exactly a time when kids are the nicest to each other. Then there’s the internal angst and the unquenchable desire to fit in.

So imagine our surprise when seven 5th-grade boys decided to take the stage at their school talent show!

Jenkins, Cale, Dennon, Tias, Cole, Liam, and Skyler were brave enough to not only get up on stage in 2016 at Jackson Elementary in Norman, Oklahoma, but they did it for the laughs by showing off some unexpected dance moves in front of their classmates.

We’re impressed!

Talent shows can be a great way to build confidence but they can also be isolating to kids who haven’t continued with dance or instruments or other things considered a “talent” as well as for students who excel in arts or sports – things that don’t lend themselves to the stage.

They also require kids to be incredibly outgoing, something that’s hard in 5th grade.

It’s a wonder any school manages to pull off talent shows without the bad kind of drama!

But these 7 friends got through it, performing what they called “The Mash-up Dance.”

The boys take the stage and give each other high-fives as the crowd cheers them on before the big performance.

Then we hear the familiar strains of DJ Khaled’s hit “All I Do Is Win.” And since the video has been viewed over 4 million, we assume it’s more than kids in football jerseys showing off some lame moves to a cool song.

And we’re right – as “everybody’s hand go up,” the real soundtrack begins.

It’s none other than Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”! Now that’s NOT what we expected to hear.

As the boys pop up, they show off some hand-flipping and other choreography from the video as the audience can’t help but crack up in front of them.

With big smiles on their faces, it’s clear that these friends are giving each other the guts to stand up on stage and do something goofy to entertain classmates and family members.

And we just want to give a shout-out to the kid all the way on the right for his superior dance skills because he’s absolutely killing it!

It’s total chaos in the auditorium from the sound of the audience who simply can’t believe these boys got up on stage to perform to Beyonce.

But, hey, 5th-grade boys are full of surprises – and sometimes they’re good ones!

And as they shimmy around, the song changes to yet another unexpected tune – Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A” – to which they pull of some seriously impressive moves.

But what really got US laughing was the “oh my gawds” that rung out in the audience as the next song came on. It’s iLoveMemphis’s “Lean and Dab.”

And yes, there’s leaning. And dabbing.

Hey, what can we say, it was big in 2015 and it’s probably not a song kids were allowed to listen to in school, so they’re pretty pumped.

Do the boys have the moves that the dancers in the video have? Of course not. But we’re giving them an A for effort and fearlessness.

Where they really excel is in drawing a reaction from the crowd each time a more unexpected blares out.

And let’s just say their ballerina moves to Meghan Trainor’s “No” are worth the watch.
