5th graders take the stage in onesies for wacky skit school won't forget

I love talent, mainly since they remind people that singing and dancing aren’t the only skills that can entertain. Hearing some killer vocals is great, but so is watching someone talk backwards really fast, or juggle T-bone steaks blindfolded.

And here’s one shining example of that very thing. This is 5th grader Ava Schrobilgen and her friend (the video doesn’t tell us her name, unfortunately!). And yes, those are onesies.

In case the onesies weren’t silly enough, they’re donning eared-hats too, not that dissimilar from the one Finn the human wears in Adventure Time. This has all the makings of a typical whacky friend group, and I can’t wait to see where it goes.

In the few seconds before the music plays, we can actually see them give away the secret to their performance. On the ridiculous, pseudo-puppet legs that they’re wearing, there is an invisible string running from their shoulders to the fake “legs”.

Should be easy to finish the puzzle from there.

Before I can spend any more time observing the inner machinations of their props, the music begins. It’s Carl Douglas’ classic, “Kung Fu Fighting”. With a few swift arm movements, it’s pretty clear now how their legs are supposed to work.

With just a few Shaolin monk poses and showy Kung Fu moves, the crowd is already thrilled with these two. Although the stop just a moment to throw hands at each other. All for the act, of course. They’re friends through and through.

Sometimes, you don’t need massive stage lights and speakers to give everyone a good time. Sometimes, you just need some sheets, some onesies, hats and your friend.

Switching things up, the track that plays next is Pharrell’s “Happy”, one of man decade-defining pop songs of the early mid-2010s. Moreover, it’s a pretty fitting title too seeing how happy the two of them are doing this. Kudos!

And speaking of decade-defining pop songs, they follow it up with Psy’s Gangnam Style. The one song, arguably, really defined the 2010s.

It was a simpler time when there was no pandemic or murder hornets. Just Gangnam Style, One Direction, and the iPhone 5. Take us back!

We’re only halfway through the performance, and they’re already struggling to hide their grins. It’s good to see that they’re having loads of fun. But wait, what’s the next song? Why, none other than the Queen B of course.

5th grade might be a young age to think of dating or being single, but the law of the land is that, single or not, you put your hands up when Beyonce tells all her Single Ladies to. Sorry, those are the rules.

Put your hands “Up”, and bring those little legs up with them.

While we’re going on this nostalgia trip already, they pick an even more nostalgic song. The gangster sunglasses are required for this one.

It may be 2014 when this was filmed, but everyone still remembers Soulja Boy. There’s a rule here just like the one for Beyonce. If Soulja Boy tells you to crank ‘dat, you crank it. You are simply required to.

Their audience is dying at this point. I expected nothing less.

All these two do is win, which is fitting since that’s the next song. When the track says “Hands go UP”, their hands, and legs, do indeed go up. In good-spirited fashion, they end their performance with a smile.

The crowd is in applause, and also stitches. All thanks to a pair of creative 5th graders without an ounce of stage fright. Their performance has exceeded their initial audience too. It’s got over 7 million views on YouTube now. That’s proof that most people just need good, wholesome shenanigans to make their day.

If you’re one such person, then you can play the video below. There’s a share button too, and I recommend tapping it after the play button.
