Police officer stops and bonds with 6-year-old boy with no arms who wants to be just like him

Partners, intimate or professional, will always have each other’s backs.

In Duluth, an amazing partnership was found between a police station and a boy. 6-year-old Harrison Humphries makes sure that Officer Rolf Seiferheld has his equipment in place.

His little partner would check if he has his badge, gun, flashlight, and other needed materials with him so he could do his job well.

On the other hand, Officer Seiferheld helps little Humphries with everything else – even if it meant carrying him around.

Harrison is a special kid.

“Harrison was born without arms, and the absence of leg bones, so his hips, fibulas, and femurs.” Tara Humphries, Harrison’s mother, said to 11Alive.

They were also told of Harrison’s bleak future where he would never be able to walk, eat by himself, play with friends, or join sports. But nonetheless, this never stopped Harrison from dreaming and participating.

When people doubted his capabilities, Harrison believed in himself.

His mother shared to 11Alive that he could brush his teeth, comb his hair, and requires only a bit of help when getting in his clothes.

Harrison proved that he’s just like any other kid. And as such, he gets to join the community in celebrations. This is where the two met.

The Duluth Police Station posted a photo on Facebook of how the duo first met.

The picture shows Officer Seiferheld sitting down on Harrison’s level and the 6-year-old kid sitting down on the grass playing with trucks and buses.

The encounter was taken during the community’s Food Truck Friday event. The police station said that “moments like these show the true colors of #DPD’s Finest!”

And Harrison agrees that his friend is indeed one of the local department’s best.

Harrison has always wanted to be a detective. And with Officer Seiferheld, he found a mentor, a role model, and most especially, a friend.

When asked why he wanted to become a law enforcement officer, Harrison described exactly what Officer Seiferheld did for him – “Help people get better.”

As for Tara, she’s more than okay and grateful to have the police officer as Harrison’s partner. She has no doubt that Harrison will learn a lot and become more confident through the cop’s tutelage.

Tara was just thankful that there are still people out there who can show his son kindness.

She said in an interview with 11Alive that not many people will take the time and interact with Harrison and that sometimes, people are scared of him.

She’s hopeful that this relationship will continue to grow as she said that this is how a community should feel – inclusive and safe.

As for Officer Seiferheld, it’s all about mutual kindness and respect.

“Be kind, and treat people how you want to be treated. Show them the respect they deserve,” he said to 11 Alive about his policing philosophy.

The two have since hung out regularly, especially on weekends. Harrison shared that he loves Friday nights because he gets to see his friend in the area. Officer Seiferheld said that the feeling is mutual.
