60 Annoying People That Drive Everyone Else Crazy
Part of living in a civilized society means that there are certain ways you are supposed to act around others at home and in public. It’s just common decency. However, not everyone chooses to always follow the rules. Some people just couldn’t care less.
While there are all kinds of different things people do that can be classified as annoying, it’s the people that know what they are doing is a little messed up but still choose to do it anyway that bother us the most. We’ve gathered 60 of their most annoying behaviors to share with you today.
You might be surprised by just how many of these behaviors apply to you and other people you know. Don’t worry though, it’s never too late to change!
1. Refusing to tip at restaurants.
People who don’t tip are the worst. However, what’s even more annoying is when people tip with just a couple of pennies. Anything under a dollar is essentially a stiff anyway and offering a few cents is just adding insult to injury.
2. Ignoring rules.
How about all those people who think the rules don’t apply to them? Barriers around art exhibits are there for a reason — to keep people from touching. This individual didn’t care and climbed over the barrier anyway to get a better social media pic.
3. Humblebragging.
The classic humblebragger. They are one of the most annoying types of people. They can often be heard making statements like, “I hate how so many guys keep asking me to dance!”, while all their friends are miserable and single.
4. Not supervising kids.
When you are out in public with your young children, it’s expected that you make sure that they are behaving. Some people just don’t care though. They let their kids run wild, wreaking havoc all over the store.
5. Hogging an escalator.
Everyone knows that you are supposed to stand to the side on an escalator so that those who are in a hurry can pass by you if need be. Unfortunately, some individuals are completely oblivious and just block the whole thing.
6. Making petty gestures.
Okay, so this person did give their server tip, but look how petty they were about it. Not only did they pour ketchup all over the table, but they actually submerged the money in an upside-down glass of water.
7. Drying laundry on a plane.
She isn’t just drying any laundry though. She is holding up her wet underwear in front of the air vents to dry them off. It’s just not an acceptable thing to do on an airplane and we’re sure it’s making tons of people uncomfortable.
8. Beginning an order with “Can I get a”.
It’s also annoying when someone simply commands their server to do something. For example, “Give me a burger and fries.” It’s not very polite and it’s embarrassing for the other people you are dining with.
9. Shamelessly polluting the environment.
Haven’t these people ever heard of Leave No Trace? It’s so frustrating when people ruin beautiful natural areas by throwing their trash everywhere. Oftentimes, there is even a trash can a few feet away and they simply choose to ignore it.
10. Making excuses.
If you aren’t going to follow common etiquette, it’s better that you just stay at home. Making excuses as to why you can’t do something that is expected doesn’t make up for the anti-social behavior. It just makes you look like a loser.
11. Closing the door on the person behind them.
There is no exact rule about how close a person must be before you should hold the door for them. However, if it’s going to be just a few seconds, pausing to hold it open for them is probably a good idea.
12. Not cleaning up.
These people left all of their trash at their seats, creating a big mess for the movie theater employees to have to clean up later. How much effort would it really take for them to clean up after themselves and throw away their trash in the trash?
13. Blaming the wrong person.
The customer didn’t realize that the person who brings the food to the table is not the person who actually cooks the food. There is so much that is out of a server’s control, but they get the blame for everything that goes wrong regardless.
14. When groups don’t walk single file in a crowd.
There are some rude people out there who couldn’t care less. They will walk down a busy public sidewalk literally plowing other walkers out of the way. Couples in love do this too. They block a whole sidewalk as they meander along hand in hand.
15. Ruining someone’s day for fun.
These individuals people purposefully sent a giant black cloud of dirty exhaust flying at the unsuspecting bicyclist. It’s actually a thing that some trashy people do as a hobby. It is called “rolling coal”.
16. Letting kids play with food.
It’s one thing if you let them do it at home as you’re the one who is going to have to clean up the mess. However, letting them throw their food everywhere at a restaurant is just not okay. These parents need to learn how to discipline.
17. Singing out loud.
It’s fine to goof off with friends and sing along to music sometimes. However, when you sing an off-key rendition of an entire Back Street Boys song out loud in public, you’ve taken things too far.
18. Using a phone as a food holder.
No, your phone is not a plate. It is not meant to hold food, drinks, or any other item. It is a phone. Not only is it not clean enough to place a sandwich on it, but you are also going to get crumbs everywhere.
19. Lists of dietary restrictions.
We understand if someone can’t eat peanuts or something like that, but when you have to bring an entire printed out list to give to the chef of what you can and cannot eat… Well, let’s just say it can be slightly annoying for the cooks.
20. Leaving shopping carts wherever they want.
They make shopping cart returns in most parking lots specifically for this purpose. However, there are plenty of people who just abandon their cart wherever. It’s a great way of inconveniencing other shoppers.
21. Deceptive marketing practices.
Marketers have one job — to sell products. The only thing we ask is that they don’t do annoying things like this. This designer put a cardboard insert in the middle of the jar to make it appear as though there were more candies than there actually are.
22. Making unreasonable requests.
It’s one thing to have a small food allergy request, but when you want to change everything on the menu and make a million substitutions, you, my friend, are annoying. This also applies to the people who make requests based on the latest fad diet they are on.
23. Talking about how busy they are.
Those people who can’t stop going on and on about how busy they are drive us crazy. We get it, you’re busy. Just like everyone else! We literally don’t know anyone who is not busy.
24. Offering poor quality services.
They hired a “professional” to power wash the floors of their home. The end result wasn’t as nice as the customer had hoped for. Hence, why we put the word professional in quotes…
25. Playing bad practical jokes.
The server thought they were getting a solid ten dollar tip. However, upon closer inspection, the total turned up a little short. They flipped over the bill to find this cute message, “some things are better than money” along with a nice Bible verse.
26. Staring at phones.
It’s especially annoying when you are trying to have a conversation with one of these phone-addicted people. Every two seconds they divert their attention to their phone instead of paying attention to what you are saying.
27. Shaving legs in a hotel pool.
She couldn’t just shave her legs in the shower like everyone else. She waited until she got down to the pool to do it. It’s pretty gross, especially with all of those little kids swimming around her. It’s neither classy nor respectful.
28. Destroying a public restroom.
We thought things like peeing on the floor or not flushing were bad. Then we saw this photo. The individual literally ripped the urinal right off the wall, leaving pieces of shattered porcelain and toilet water everywhere.
29. Poor parking jobs.
How hard is it to park in between the lines. There is really no excuse for messing this one up. If you can’t maneuver your car into a parking space correctly, then you shouldn’t be on the road.
30. Ruining fresh concrete.
Normally it’s done by people who leave their footprints in the concrete or write their names in it. This guy took things a step further. He drove right through the freshly poured concrete on his motorcycle.
31. Making a mess with sugar packets.
This awesome customer thought they were being very clever when they drew a smiley face using sugar and ripped the remains of the paper packet into shreds. In actuality, they were just being a jerk.
32. Putting an empty container back in the fridge.
It’s a cruel trick that people play on their housemates, typically by accident. They finish the tub of ice cream and then put the container back in the fridge. Then when someone else excitedly goes to eat some, they find that there is nothing left.
33. Treating every surface as a seat.
Just because it is a horizontal surface doesn’t mean that you should sit on it. Try telling this lady that though. She sits wherever she likes. Even if that means plopping down on top of the cheeses at the grocery store.
34. Splitting a check 10 ways.
It’s a super annoying thing to do. Not only does it slow the service down for everyone else in the restaurant, but it will also make your server want to pull their hair out. This is why invented apps like Venmo, folks.
35. Clicking reply all in emails.
There is always some wise guy at work who does this. Or maybe not so wise. It depends on whether it was an accident or not. They send everyone in the office a message that really only the boss needed to receive.
36. Giving up at the last minute.
The mailman got 99.9% of the way to the house but decided to leave the package out in the rain instead of walking one foot further to place it in the dry area. It was just too much effort for him.
37. Putting things back in the wrong spot.
We hate when we have to waste time looking for things because someone placed the item in a random new location. It’s also annoying when people do this at grocery stores. They take an item out of their cart and place it back on the wrong shelf.
38. Asking for too many dipping sauces.
One or two is okay, but at some point, it gets a little ridiculous. If you order more than a handful of sauces, you should probably expect to be up-charged. Sauce isn’t free!
39. Talking during a movie.
This one drives us bonkers, especially if it’s in a movie theater. It’s not cheap to go see a movie these days so when someone starts blabbing loudly while we’re trying to enjoy a flick, it can be pretty annoying.
40. Invading personal space.
Imagine sitting in your seat on an airplane and having someone’s dirty feet come poking through the cracks around you. Not only does it violate the rule against taking your shoes off, but it’s also just plain rude.
41. Using fragrances excessively.
Some people apply perfume or cologne by the bottle. It’s just too much. A little fragrance is a good thing, but when you can smell it all the way across a room, it’s crossing into excessive territory.
42. Eating cakes and pies from the center.
When you take a piece out of the middle of a pie or even a tray of brownies, it’s a slap in the face to bakers everywhere. It’s like eating the center of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and leaving everyone else the crust.
43. Taking a full shopping cart into the less than 10 items checkout.
It sort of defeats the purpose of an express checkout lane when people disregard the 10 item limit. It slows the process down for everyone. Yet, there is always one person in line who thinks they have a right to cheat the system.
44. Littering on public transportation.
This guy is casually sitting on the subway, cracking peanuts and throwing the shells on the floor. How obnoxious do you have to be to do something like this? It’s amazing how blatantly some people litter.
45. Talking on the phone at the gym.
For many lifters, the gym is like a sanctuary. It’s a place of meditation where they can forget the stresses of everyday life and release all of their pent up energy. When people have loud conversations on their phones in that atmosphere, it is super distracting.
46. Endangering others.
People who do messed up stuff like taping a razor blade to the handle of shopping cart should not be allowed to participate in society. Being annoying is one thing, but this is downright sinister.
47. Forgetting to replace the toilet paper.
There is nothing worse than reaching for the toilet paper after doing your business and finding there is none left. Some do it out of forgetfulness. Others are just lazy. But either way, it’s very annoying.
48. Carving names on plants.
This scarred up plant was seen at an actual botanical garden. People couldn’t resist tagging it with all kinds of nonsensical messages. It’s definitely not good for the plant to get defiled like this. It probably won’t last much longer.
49. Sending in your RSVP at the last minute.
The point of an RSVP is to allow the event organizers to plan ahead and make sure they have enough supplies to cover everyone. If someone waits until the last minute before an event to RSVP, it doesn’t really help much.
50. Doing graffiti.
It’s so sad when people ruin national monuments or natural features in parks by painting graffiti on them. We’ll never understand this practice. If you’re going to deface something, why not deface your own body and get a tattoo instead?
51. Blasting music in your car.
We all like to jam out in the car every once and a while. However, if your subwoofers are loud enough to wake up the whole neighborhood when you cruise down the street, despite what you may think, you’re not cool. You’re just annoying.
52. Eating loudly.
We all eat. That much is normal, but most of us have the common decency to at least chew with our mouths closed. The worst is when you are trying to watch TV and someone next to you is loudly slurping away on their soft drink and crunching on their potato chips.
53. Not having an order ready.
There is always at least one guy in every line who gets to the counter and still has no idea what he wants. He had so much time to get his order ready, but somehow completely failed to do so.
54. Bicyclists who ignore traffic signals.
It’s fine that bicyclists would like to share the road with cars. However, just because you are on a bike doesn’t give you a free pass to ignore traffic signals. It increases the risk of accidents for both parties.
55. Not turning your phone on vibrate.
No one wants to hear your annoying ringtone going off all the time. This isn’t 1999 anymore. Keep it on vibrate like everyone else. That is the considerate thing to do!
56. Using ALL CAPS.
What’s the deal with people who send text messages or emails in all caps. We get what they’re trying to do — make the message seem more urgent. However, it just comes across as yelling in text form.
57. Bringing strong smelling food to work.
Save the pungent recipes for dinner at home. Working in an office all day is already challenging enough. Trying to get anything done while extreme spice smells are wafting around the cubicles is pretty much impossible.
58. Cutting in line.
You’ve been waiting patiently in line for 30 minutes, then all of a sudden a group of people cuts right in front of you. It’s the most annoying thing ever. Then you have to decide between letting it go or confronting them and getting into an argument.
59. Being late.
When someone says to meet at a certain time at a certain place, most of us do our best to abide. If not, it inconveniences the people who do arrive on time. Some cultures are more lenient on this than others though.
60. Blocking a seat with your bag.
It’s fine to do so when the bus or metro isn’t crowded. However, if there are other people standing while you are taking up three seats with your collection of bags, it’s not very cool. It’s similar to those who refuse to give up their seats to the elderly or handicapped individuals.
