Your mattress is dirtier than you think – here are 7 tips for cleaning it

We spend one-third of our life asleep. That brought breaks down to twenty-five years or 9,125 days catching Z’s (assuming a 75-year lifespan). That is a lot of time! The place we spent most of that time is our bed. We often clean our sheets, but how regularly do you clean your mattress?

Cleaning the mattress is just as important as cleaning the sheets.

Thankfully, it doesn’t take a lot of extra time to clean. Depending on the method, you can do a deep clean or a surface clean (both are important!)

Now that we know we need to clean out mattresses, here are seven easy tips for cleaning that squishy germ trap!

These can all be done as needed, so figure out which one your bed needs!

1. Steam clean

A steam clean is the deepest way to clean your mattress. It is important to do this occasionally as the steam cleans and disinfects the mattress.

You can use an iron to get deep. If you have a steam canister, you can use that in place of your iron. You could even use a 2-in1 steam system if you have it available.

It is the heat and moisture that kills the bacteria but make sure you read the cleaning instructions, so you don’t melt your bed!

2. Wash your pillows

You should be washing your pillows every three months. Not just the cases, but the entire pillow! We carry a lot of dirt and grime on our face and hair. When we lay down, we can transfer it to the pillow easily.

3. Get rid of yellowing
