When it comes to kids, we know that they tend to go back and forth over the course of their lives when it comes to who their favorite parent is. When it comes to our dogs, though, there’s no such fickle foolery to be found. If you have a dog, then you can bet your bottom dollar that they have a favorite human.

Sure, they may get along with everybody, but there is only ONE person that they are utterly devoted to. Who is the favorite has been the core of many an argument for dog-loving couples but, thankfully, our dogs are more than willing to settle the argument for us.

They have ways of communicating how they feel and exactly who they feel it for. We just have to learn how to listen. Here are 7 sure-fire ways to know if your furbaby is a big ol’ mama’s dog.

1. They have to be in your lap

The next time you and your partner have a seat together at home, pay close attention to your dog. If they run and jump up into your lap first, it’s a tell-tale sign that wherever you are is where they prefer to be.

2. They want a seat at the table

Another way to tell if your dog is a mama’s pup is how they behave when you sit down to have a meal at the table. If you find that your pooch hops up into a chair expectantly waiting for you to share your food or give them some of their own, well, you have a mama’s dog.

3. You’re the apple of their eye

If you find that you can’t go anywhere without your furbaby trying to follow, then you know that they are a mommy’s dog for sure. When your pup is devoted to you they will choose to go with you anywhere, just so long as they can be close to you.

4. Alone time is a thing of the past

As we said, they will choose to go with you anywhere and, unfortunately, that means everywhere. If you like your alone time, your pup will soon make you realize that it was a luxury. Don’t worry though, you will find that it’s a luxury you neither need nor want when you have the option of hanging out with your dog… and cat.

5. They watch for you by the door

Perhaps the simplest way to tell if your puppers is a mama’s dog is to just look at the door or window when you pull up to the house. If you see their sweet, silly face popping out somewhere anxiously searching for any sign of you, then you know you’re definitely their favorite.

6. They sleep right next to you

This is one sign that shows itself almost immediately. If your dog can climb up in bed with you and fall right to sleep, you know you’re their person. Just don’t feel too bad when they sprawl out and kick you off of it. You’re their favorite person, for sure, but nobody trumps having a cozy bed all to yourself.

If you have a mama’s dog on your hands, then you know that you have a partner in crime for life. They will be down to do whatever you want, whenever you want. For a dog, there’s just nothing that can beat spending time with their human.
