75 bizarre and rare coincidences people managed to capture on camera at the perfect time
Some people believe that coincidences are nothing more than a series of random events that have no underlying message or meaning, and there’s no supernatural intelligence running the show. Things happen because they just do.
But, others will tell you that there’s no such thing as coincidences! Whether they call it fate, destiny, or the Universe being cheeky, when the stars get all their ducks lined up in a row, it’s more than just a happy accident. It’s a MESSAGE!
No matter which camp you fall under, these photos of 75 weird and strange coincidences, one-in-million-odds, and other rare circumstances are almost too surreal to pass off as mere happenstance.
1) “The mountains and trees lined up perfectly on this camper on the highway.”
It took the driver a few tries to snap this photo to get the mountains lined up just right. Even so, it’s plain to see that this particular truck, the peaks on those mountains, and him being there all at the same time was perfection in the making.
2) “Right place, right time.”
Cookies and energy drinks go together like two sugar peas in a pod. I can just hear the Cookie Monster begging for a “cooooookieeeee” in my head right now!
3) “Fire breather looks like he’s kissing a fire dragon.”
First of all, OMG fire breathing! Second, holy mother of dragons! Daenerys Targaryen would be so proud.
4) “A dragon fly landed on my friends foot and mirrored its own tattoo.”
It’s pretty rare to see a a life-sized dragonfly tattoo on someone’s foot. It’s even more rare to have a matching dragonfly suddenly swoop down and perch on your foot.
But, catching a dragonfly trying to shag a dragonfly tattoo is definitely one-in-a-million! (That’s how they mate, from tail to tail.)
5) “Hometown zip code, t-shirt, race number, finishing time — all 33607.”
When the Universe is using numbers to tell you something, you better listen. It’s times like these that you should go buy a lottery ticket! I wouldn’t be surprised if he won $33,607.00 after taxes.
6) “Dog gave birth to three puppies, each with their own corresponding number on their back.”
This would be perfect for a kid’s show like Sesame Street. There’s no better way to learn how to count numbers than pressing dots on puppy bums!
7) “My friend just got this once in a lifetime picture.”
Wow, this is absolutely stunning! The only thing missing from this gorgeous scene is a unicorn flying across the sky. Now, that would be the Universe sending a message!
8) This is Fate working her sweet magic!
It was just another regular day at work for Fate and Destiny when they got together and made this magic happen. THIS is by far one of the coolest “coincidences” ever!
“Twenty years ago I went to an air show with my Grandpa and Uncle. One of the aircraft I sat in was the OH58 Kiowa. This was the day that I decided that I wanted to be a pilot. Today while looking through some old photos I found the picture below of me sitting in the Kiowa. I thought it was cool because that’s what I’ve been flying the past month. Upon arriving to the airfield today I asked operations if they have ever had a Kiowa with the tail number listed on the aircraft that I sat in when I was eight years old. (What are the chances right?) They looked it up and not only had they once had that aircraft there, but it was sitting on the ramp. I went out and took a picture with it and realized that I had actually been flying that specific Kiowa this past month. Twenty years later I am flying the exact aircraft that helped spark my dream to fly. Wild.”
9) “This bird landed on the page about itself.”
A bird landing on a bird book is serendipity. A bird landing on the exact page in the book that describes him to a T is pure cheeky fun!
10) “Mosquito killed by a dart.”
What kind of voodoo was at work to make ultimate precision like this happen? There’s probably zero chance that a mosquito and dart will collide like this ever again.
11) “What is this I don’t even-“
First we had the Cookie Monster, now we have a famous pop star! To be honest, the chances of this happening are actually pretty good since you see these trucks on the highway all the time. It’s just funny that they lined up like this.
12) “Managed to catch this balloon popping on my phone…”
Okay, so this happens like never! Some smartphones these days have pretty good cameras, but there’s no smartphone in the world that could ever anticipate a moment like this happening. Stunning!
13) “Butterfly bro lands on his own picture.”
What is it with birds and butterflies wanting to read up on themselves? It could be that they’re just attracted to all the bright colors.
Or, like @clamberrypie said:
“It’s like a butterfly version of the Sears catalog lingerie section.”
14) “In very rare circumstances it is possible to see a full 360 degree rainbow from an airplane.”
Not only is this a perfect circle rainbow, but it’s also a double circle one, too! I hope he can see the lucky pot of gold from up there, because this is definitely a good sign.
15) “Brother spent a year trying to get a lightning photo. He caught this last night, I just noticed the boat in the bottom left.”
It’s hard to see, but the boat’s name that he’s referring to is “Perfect Timing.” Right on, boat, right on.
16) Fisherman dad caught the wallet he lost in the lake 20 years ago.
Well, this could probably be the reason why dad was fishing in the same spot for 20 years! But yes, it’s totally amaze-balls that he fished up his old wallet.
“So my dad, a fisherman at lake “Attersee”, Austria, just fished up his old, lost wallet in one of his fishnets, after he had dropped it into the lake 20 YEARS AGO.”
17) “Triple rainbow.”
Hey that’s three pots of gold by my count. If you’re wondering how multiple rainbows like this can happen, here’s an explanation:
@maezel:
“This happens because one (two) rainbow(s) is(are) generated by the sun and the other, with the weird angle, from the reflection of the sun on a lake or body of water. If the reflection was strong enough you would see 4th.”
18) “My brother accidentally wore the same outfit as my daughters birthday present.”
The question that’s probably on everyone’s mind – was his name Ken, too? Who knows! But if it were, it would certainly solidify Fate’s role in pulling all our strings.
19) “My dog’s white stripe lines up perfectly with the water’s edge.”
Awww this is just too cute! This can’t really be faked because we have no control over how the oceans ebb and flow. That power lies entirely with the moon!
20) “Two collided bullets from the Battle of Gallipoli, 1915-16.”
Wow, this is something that belongs in the slo-mo scene of an action flick! Not only were the bullets themselves an incredible find, but discovering them must have been like finding a needle in a haystack.
21) These amazing pictures sparked the need for fingerprinting.
These are mugshots of two different men, both named William West, who were both doing time at Leavenworth Prison in 1903.
Understandably, staff were confused by the men who shared the same name, same hair, and practically the same face (although on closer inspection you can notice the differences.
They are part of the reason why law enforcement now uses fingerprints as identification.
22) “Rare cloud phenomenon over eastern Victoria, Australia.”
This looks like something that could only come out of Photoshop, but rare phenomena like this are actually real. Whatever the universe was trying to say, it must have been a very good day.
“Spotted this rare phenomenon over eastern Victoria. Fallstreak holes, or hole punch clouds, form in clouds that contain supercooled water droplets — at a temperature below freezing point, but not frozen.”
23) “My blind son found a four leaf clover on his own. What are the odds?”
Well, you can look at this two ways.
The noble Jedi Knight way:
“The Force is strong with this one.”
Or, the Party Pooper (@Teste_on_Hennes_Chin) way:
“You know how the saying goes: “Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in awhile.” I suppose this is his nut.”
24) “Swedish guy accidentally captures green meteorite while searching for the northern lights.”
He may have accidentally caught the wrong light show, but it was still right on target! This meteorite looks like its doing a swan dive right into the fluffy clouds.
25) “What are the odds of this accident?”
Sometimes luck is on your side, and then there’s this. That’s what the little fella gets for entering the “no fly” zone.
26) “An albino deer I spotted in northwestern Wisconsin yesterday.”
The chances of an albino deer being born are about 1 in 30,000, which is still exceeding rare. The fact that they’re shy (when they’re not darting in front of your car) makes a sighting like this even more rare.
According to some Native American traditions, white deer are symbolic of a great shift coming to this world.
27) “Lottery ticket vs. winning numbers.”
I’m stressed out about this and it’s not even my lotto ticket! When this happens, the message here is clear: the Universe really doesn’t like you.
28) “The People You May Know section of Facebook Put up these pictures that allign perfectly with unrelated people.”
When computers get bored between algorithms, they do funny stuff like this. We could be very well be seeing the birth of Skynet and artificial intelligence!
29) What kind of crazy is this?
It’s pretty hard to catch a lightning strike with just your average smartphone camera, but this guy literally caught a split second moment. As in, this is probably 1/100th of a split second of technology!
“This was taken during a thunderstorm, and that’s the sky lighting up from a lightning strike. Somehow my coworker snapped a pic before the sky fully lit up.”
30) “4 strangers same outfit.”
Don’t you hate it when you see someone else wearing these outfit? Well, this guy got to multiply that feeling by three!
31) “My friend’s father caught a blue lobster the other day.” Odds are 1 in 200 million.”
According to the Marine Institute, the odds of catching a blue lobster like this one are 1 in 200 million. They can go for $500 in a high-end restaurant, but this lobster is just too gorgeous to eat!
32) “We got another rare lobster in at work. This time he’s a 1 in 30 million calico lobster.”
This two-toned calico lobster isn’t as rare as the blue one, but it’s still a 1 in 30 million find. Anytime you come up on top with odds like that, it means you’re supposed to go buy a scratch-off lotto!
33) “These licence plates.”
Yea, naw, that’s just too funny! It’s times like these that you just have to laugh about the silly randomness of life.
34) “Friend tried to toss me his keys at work, they got stuck on piping in the roof like this.”
Crazy things like this just don’t happen! Until they do. The “key” to this trick is how you throw it.
35) “The print on the lorry in front is in the same spot my wife took her background photo.”
Well, there you go. The message from Fate is very clear – follow the truck to Bruges!
36) “This unbelievable picture is really real.” – Dad
At first, people thought Dad was nuts whenever he whispered of its existence. But, it turns out he wasn’t so nutballz after all!
“Almost 12 years ago my Dad caught a picture so rare that no one believed us when we told them. Today I finally found the picture to prove it…”
37) “Once in a lifetime.”
Yassss! DOT and COM. Now the only thing that’s missing is a picture of a “bust.”
38) “I dropped a plate by accident, and it spilt in half perfectly. No shards or chips.”
Now that’s quality craftsmanship. No one makes things that break evenly down the center like they used to in the good old days.
anymore, like they did back in the good old days.
39) “Eggsperts say odds are 11 billion to 1.”
Well, this must have been completed uneggspected! He may have used up all his luck for the day on this one egg though, so it’s probably best to just stay home.
40) “My friend captured possibly the rarest thing that’s ever happened.”
Um, I think one of them might be focused on making sure they’re not so rare anymore.
And, then there’s this from @therealpixie:
“Looks like squirrel incest to me! Surely two albino squirrels must share DNA.”
She’s got a point!
41) “Perfectly timed speed camera photo.”
Do you ever feel like there’s an angel, watching over you? Well, what about a totally random bird? This flapper saved the driver from getting a speeding ticket since no one could ID his license plate!
42) “Car’s lucky day.”
This car must be equipped with one of those invisible force fields. That’s the only logical explanation for this!
43) “Today, I think I found the rarest thing I will ever come by and never seen one until this morning on my front tire. An albino fly.”
Well, he isn’t a very colorful character, now is he? If you hated that joke, then here’s one another one from @AusCan351:
“That is a pretty fly (for a white guy).”
44) “Sequential license plates.”
These two South Carolina drivers didn’t even know that the Universe was playing a joke on them! The license plate on the left reads “MLS-941,” while the one on the right says “MLS-942.” What would have made this even better is if they were both driving the same exact cards.
45) “If he hands you an apple, run. But not in a straight line….”
Archery is definitely a skill that takes a lot of practice to get right. But, apparently this guy is the bow and arrow whisperer.
“My dad started learning archery a few years ago. He uses a simple recurve bow with no add-ons. He comes back from lessons with this. One arrow shot through the other, and it’s stuck in pretty well.”
46) “How does this even happen?!?”
Demon swirl? Call an exorcist, my friend! Pepsi is an abomination, and this just proves it.
47) “I saw a gull standing on top of another gull.”
Grab a stone! This is your one-in-a-million chance to make an age-old proverb actually come true!
48) Wait, is that my card?
It’s actually pretty common for the first 6-8 digits to be the same. But all the other similarities make this a really strange coincidence!
“Aussie currently traveling around Greece, I just found half an Australian bank card out the front of my hotel. The name, valid date and first 6 numbers that are visible are exactly the same as my own card. I ran upstairs and pulled apart my bag and found mine conpletely intact where I’d left it.”
49) “This Lady’s dress.”
Normally she’d stand out in a crowd with that dress! But these two cars provide good camo cover.
50) “2 IN A MILLION”
More like two-for-one. It was really just aiming for the blank space between the bones. It’s such a perfect fit, with only enough room for those two nails!
“Two 16 gauge wood framing nails shot into the space in between my kneecap and femur! Pay close attention neither nail touched ANY bone. If you look close enough you can see where one nail barely scraped some cartilage off of my femur.”
51) “My sister, other sister, and parents accidentally bought me the same birthday card.”
Well, they all do come from the same family. Or there’s also this obvious “dad” explanation from @christinawaide:
“Or you sisters asked your dad to buy them a card at the store and your dad, being a dad, bought 3 of the same. Sorry-I just call it like I see it. And I have a dad. haha”
52) “I just dropped my bank note on the floor and I thought it had disappeared.”
Best magic trick ever! Since it’s really hard to even know what you’re looking at, take a closer look. The bill is standing on its edge, so it looks like a line in the carpet.
53) “After having it for 2 years, I accidentally FOUND my phone background the other day near Santa Cristina, Italy!”
I’d say this was just a happy coincidence, but it’s not. Obviously the Universe has been trying to get him to go there for 2 long years!
54) “She was born for this job.”
She was born for this exact moment. Mission accomplished!
55) “Jesus is this way.”
See, told you so! Jesus, have some faith, people!
“On our way to an amusement park when we see a man holding a sign saying “Jesus is this way”. Start joking that Jesus is at the amusement park. This is what we park next to.”
56) “Identical License plates but from different states.”
“Roy 9” are obviously part of an alien clone army that’s come to invade our planet. They only have different cars because they’re trying to blend in.
57) “The house my sister is looking at buying has a picture I painted when I was in high school for a history project on their wall.”
Wow, this is pretty wild! Things that make you go hmmmm…
“So my sister, her husband, and my mom go to tour a house my sister is considering to buy. My mom calls me saying “you’ll never guess what is on their wall”. It’s the picture I painted for my American History class I took my junior year of high school over two years ago. It’s a ceiling tile, and my teacher placed them all on the ceiling of her classroom. My guess is that she replaces them every few years and lets students take the ones being replaced. “
58) “Both lines at McDonalds had the same cars.”
Yes, I’ll have a McDouble please. And could you make that a double!
59) “These two local doctors. Two these doctors local.”
Is this is what happens when you look at your name in a mirror? They’re probably related, but it must be super confusing to patients and hospital staff.
@elephasmaximus:
“A lot of South Indians have this weird tradition were our last names are our dad’s first names. Cherian (a variation on Zachariah) is a pretty common name for Christians from Kerala, a southern Indian state. So these guys may well be father & son.”
60) “‘Beware of death’ sign above an unexploded shell in a tree during WWI.”
It’s kind of unclear what order this was made in. Did the shell hit the tree, and then the sign was put up? Or was there mortal danger nearby, and then the shell hit the tree underneath the sign?
Whatever the case, @star_boy2005 nailed it with this comment:
“How’d you like to be the guy who nailed that sign to the tree? ‘Hey, you guys got a softer hammer?'”
61) “Lucky Car.”
Here’s another lucky car that almost didn’t get hit by a tree. This tree spent its whole life growing curves in just the right places, so an accident like this wouldn’t happen!
62) “Leaf meets crack in the gate.”
So the chance of this happening might seem pretty small at first. Until you think about how many leaves are out there blowing in the wind.
@castellar:
“People don’t realize that even though the odds of this occurring with one leaf falling near one fence are infinitesimal there are billions of trees with trillions of leaves falling all over the world.”
63) “The left door perfectly describes the right door’s condition.”
Okay, so the spelling may be a little bit off. But when you don’t have all the Scrabble letters, you work with what you have!
64) “This captcha password.”
Racist bots?! These are supposed to be randomly generated phrases.
65) “I mean, what are the odds?”
Lol, wut odds? The OCD among you may have added up the digits on the plate, and are probably really annoyed that the 26 wasn’t a 27. It would have been a perfect score!
66) “What are the odds?”
What are the odds that three kids who look like Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley would be huddled together in the same class photo?
It also looks like Neville Longbottom and Crabbe are in the back row!
67) “Is this going to be a bad day or a good one?”
I think this means the bad luck and good luck will cancel each other out. But, you better not risk it. Just go home and sleep it off.
68) “My default router password described my rare birthmark.”
This right here is pure comedic gold! Methinks the Universe is poking fun at his “uneveniris.”
69) “My phone captured a card being dealt, total accident but mildly interesting consequence.”
Alright Maverick, quit showing off! That’s a pretty slick ace he dealt right there.
70) “My daughter got a book in the discarded book pile at her HS that my wife and my wife’s mom also checked out in HS.”
This is pretty is pretty insane! But, Im kind of sad that the book doesn’t look like it was checked out very often.
@mathead:
“Guess the book chose to retire where it got the most love.”
71) “3 Eggs. All Twins. The odds of this happening are about 0.003%”
They’re triplet twins! Maybe the eggs are going through a round of fertility treatments.
72) “My worksheet for statistics said I wouldn’t get the same numbers when I used a random number generator. I did.”
I’m going to use these numbers for the next lotto draw! Statistically speaking, it should be a match!
73) “Yesterday I got lucky, I ride again.”
He literally almost got screwed. But I bet he feels pretty lucky he didn’t get nailed.
74) “My friends order number was the same as her total.”
The Universe speaks in numbers. Right now, it’s saying, “Ha ha, joke’s on you! There aren’t any working ice cream machines.”
75) “This bill is exactly 11111!!!!!”
Would it be really rude to tip .11 cents, just so you could make it even more magical? These aren’t USD prices, in case you’re wondering.
@I_Have_3_Legs:
“Was about to ask how a crab cake was 400 dollars. That shit better cure cancer.”
