When you think about someone receiving a cancer diagnosis, oftentimes someone much older comes to mind. Tragically, though, this disease isn’t discriminatory, and it affects people of all ages and all walks of life. This is a heartbreaking fact that one 9-year-old boy knows all too well.

Though it’s a travesty for a child to get cancer in every sense of the word, it does happen.

Cancer is something that affects people without respect to their race, religion, or their age.

Steven Cotter Jr. is only just 9-years-old, but the brave little boy has been battling his cancer for over three years now.

Steven was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in August of 2016, when he was just six years old. Thankfully, the little boy was blessed with a victory over his 3-year-long fight with the disease. Steven got to take his very last chemo pill, hopefully for the rest of his life. When he did, he was overcome with intense emotion and broke out in tears of joy and relief.

The boy’s mom, Ashley Cotter, decided to commemorate the special moment by recording it on video.

When she saw how thankful her baby boy was to be done with his meds and the awful treatments, she decided to share the video to Facebook.

“This is just a touch of what he’s had to take over the past 3 yrs my baby kicked cancer ass with a smile on his face and his head held high I could not be more proud then I am right now!!!!! #peaceoutcancer,” Ashley captioned her video on Facebook.

A little less than a month ago, Steven sat down slouched in his chair as he overlooked the dozens of medications he’d been taking for so long. These were the physical representations of his long, terrifying fight with cancer. As he gazed out over them, his eyes welled and then he began to cry.

To Ashley’s relief, her son told her it was nothing to worry over. He was crying because was so happy.

The little boy had every right to break down in tears. When you look at all those pill bottles, it’s just a small glimpse into how much he really had to endure. He hasn’t even been on this planet a decade yet, but he’s experienced more than many people go through in a lifetime.

Steven is one strong, impressive young man, and it’s clear that he has a lot of support. His mother is so proud of her son and his fight for life.

“You have never seen pure happiness till you’ve seen a 9-year-old little boy cry the most happiest tears ever to be cancer free and take his last chemo treatment!! My baby took his last chemo crying with a smile on his face!!!! God blessed my family! Both my sons have a story to tell!!! Listen and you all will hear of them going further than the stars!!! This is one of the most proud moments I’ve ever lived!!” her post continued.

The video that Steven’s mom posted is silent, but his tears and expression speak volumes.

The video of the little boy crying tears of joy as he takes his last cancer treatment was so touching that it went viral. It quickly reached hundreds of thousands of viewers, giving everyone hope and a reason to celebrate.
