Cops do welfare check on 95-year-old widower – realize he's out of groceries
2020 has become a whirlwind for the entire world. Due to COVID-19, our means of life have been entirely transformed. A worldwide quarantine has kept us all indoors and the only public space we can be in is our grocery stores. Grocery stores even have strict guidelines to be 6ft apart from the person around us.
Those precautions still put us at risk of contracting this brutal virus.
For our parents and grandparents, they are even more at risk of becoming infected and the grocery stores surely aren’t the safest places to be. But, with all of the grey clouds over this global pandemic, there have been remarkable stories that keep us positive during these times.
San Diego, California police received a call about a welfare check on an elderly man.
They go on with their duties to check on the 95-year-old widower who goes by the name Mr.Teo. While they were looking around to make sure Mr. Teo was alright these cops noticed some unsettling, his kitchen shelves were bare, if not empty.
There is no way Mr. Teo could safely go to the grocery store during this very hazardous time.
That is when these police officers had a generous idea. After these officers left Mr. Teo’s home they drove straight to the nearest grocery store to pick up anything they could so Mr. Teo could have some food in his cupboards.
They even recorded a video while shopping to show how kindness really goes a long way!
The officers were lucky to find some essential items for Mr. Teo as you see in the video just how empty the store’s shelves are.
The officers picked up milk, bread, meats, packaged peaches, and even toilet paper for Mr. Teo.
Before these noble officers went back to deliver the surprise to Mr. Teo they stopped by the local Chinese restaurant Golden House to pick up Mr. Teo some dinner. When these San Diego officers went to visit Mr. Teo for the second time that day, he was filled with gratitude.
He even waved to the cameras with a smile on his face, while thanking the kind-hearted police.
The officer handed Mr. Teo a delicious chicken and vegetable dish, which looked like plenty for him to have some leftovers too.
One thing is for sure, not all heroes wear capes but some do wear a badge.
The caption on the now-viral video summed it up perfectly.
“It started as a welfare check & ended with spirits being raised for all, including “Mr Teo” a 95-yr old widower in need of some help. Southern Division’s Sgt Holslag & his team saw a need, filled it & even partnered with Golden House restaurant on Palm Ave! This is how we win.”
Even though self-isolation has disconnected us during this difficult time. We need to remember a gloved hand goes a long way. We do still have the power to help one another if that’s grabbing our grandparent’s groceries, or reaching out to an elderly neighbor safely. This video is one that will definitely inspire people to think about our elders.
These officers are true examples of selfless heroes.
If you need some sunshine on a cloudy day this video below is one to put a smile on your face.
