Flying is not an uncommon fear. Many people have special rituals that they partake in when their plane is taking flight, or sometimes passengers just need one (or five) glasses of wine to numb the fear. Whatever works!

While some people can pop a Melatonin and sleep for most of the flight, there are other people who need a bit more help.

Megan Ashley was recently on a flight where she witnessed someone who had a very big fear of flying. She was sitting nearby a 96-year-old woman who seemed to be traveling alone, and apparently it was her first time flying in 15 years.

15 years is a pretty long time — the lady had been wanting to visit her family in Kansas City, however, her fear of flying was setting her back.

She was clearly apprehensive, so as the plane was taking off, she asked the young man who was sitting next to her if they could hold hands. She did not know who this stranger was, and he didn’t know her, but it didn’t matter. He happily obliged and did his best to comfort her. When they landed, they even shared a hug, and Megan happily watched this sweet interaction happen all in real-time.

This man knew exactly what he needed to do throughout the whole flight, too. When she needed to go to the bathroom, he helped her stand up and watched her go down the aisle to make sure she was okay. He also held her bag and helped her get off the plane and into her wheelchair. He even stayed with her when she got confused about where her daughter went until she was able to find her again.

He understood that she just needed someone there to help and support her, almost like a flight angel. He was exactly the comfort she needed to mentally get through it.

Megan shared that these interactions had her smiling for the entire flight.

“I walked away sobbing happy tears being so thankful for people like this wonderful human. She was so grateful that she wanted him to have her flight pretzels,” Megan shared along with photos of the two on Facebook.

“Hats off to you sir, for your kind heart and your compassion toward someone whom you’ve never met. I have never been so touched on a flight before. This truly made my week,” Megan added.

After she shared the touching story to Facebook, it quickly gained a lot of traction and amounted to 335k likes. Everyone is naturally swooning.

In a world where it sometimes feels like everyone is out for themselves, it is so refreshing to find people like this young man. It just goes to show that if you are kind to strangers, especially those who are in need of a little help, it can go a long way. You can truly make someone’s day with just a dash of compassion of understanding.

Let’s all help each other out and work as a team to make the world a better place. This man is a great example!
