Cats and dogs aren’t known for being the best of friends. In fact, they’re considered to be quite the opposite, and many movies are based on the idea of them hating each other’s guts.

There’s little truth to this idea, though. You can see for yourself by checking out the cute animal content that proves there is such thing as inter-species friendships between cats and dogs.

In fact, cats and dogs can get on so well with one another, they’re inseparable.

One particular video that shows the level of affection that is possible between cats and dogs is this adorable clip of a momma cat with five freshly birthed kittens – and a Golden Retriever!

Golden Retrievers are known for being one of the friendliest, easy-to-please dog breeds of all time. It’s no surprise that they’re a popular choice for a pet, as they’re good with young children, and other animals too – including cats!

According to Dogtime.com, “The breed’s friendly, tolerant attitude makes them fabulous family pets, and their intelligence makes them highly capable working dogs.”

It’s these particular characteristics that allow this breed to get along with just about anyone. Unsurprisingly, this means that when a Golden Retriever is presented with the option of befriending a whole litter of kitties, they’re more than up for it!

In the video, this particular pup takes on the role of nanny to her ginger kitty-friend’s five newborn, squirming, squeaking kittens. The doting Golden Retriever peacefully watches over the tiny kittens, acting as their guardian as they get used to their new surroundings.

The video shows the kittens growing day by day, all the while remaining well under the supervision of this Hairy Poppins. There’s a clear bond on both sides – the kittens are happy to nestle in between the nanny dog’s paws and get cosy. There’s certainly enough fluff on a Golden Retriever to make for a comfy bed!

If this isn’t proof of how a Golden Retriever’s temperament really makes them the perfect dog to have around kids and kittens, we don’t know what is. And who wouldn’t want a home with a kids, kittens, dogs… you name it!

With their parents close by (their actual parents and their Golden Retriever nanny, that is), the kittens grow past newborn stage and are eventually able to open their eyes to see the world for the first time. We love how some of these kitties have a strong resemblance to their mother, while others have a greyer look, like their father.

Momma cat is on hand to support her kiddos, but daddy cat looks pretty miserable. Maybe he’s wondering if this is the new life he signed up for. Either way, it’s probably a good thing the kittens have got a loving doggo to look after them too!

We don’t think there’s anything more adorable than this type of animal friendship!

While we hope that our pets will become close to us, it’s likely that they’ll also develop their own amusing relationships with one another. Sometimes, this will give you a giggle, but when kittens are involved… cuteness overload.
